INT. LAW OFFICE - NIGHTHARVEY COOPER, mid-20’s, sits at his desk busily working on his computer. MARILYN NADAL, mid-20’s, enters. She’s carrying a file box and looks very annoyed. She slams it down on Harvey’s desk.

MARILYNHere are all the travel logs for Ambassador Costa over the past three months.

HARVEYAnd “Hello” to you too.

MARILYNWhen you realize that nothing is out of the ordinary, I expect a public apology from Senator McHale for this ridiculous corruption charge.

Marilyn turns to leave.HARVEY

Marilyn wait.She stops.

HARVEY (CONT’D)You know that this isn’t personal, right?

MARILYNMy bitter ex-boyfriend convinces one of his slimy clients to make a baseless accusation against my new boss--

HARVEYThat’s not--

MARILYN--You’re right, Harvey. How could I possibly think that was personal?

HARVEYI told the partners not to do this. Your boss is clean and we’ll all see that in a matter of time.

MARILYNThen why take the fucking case!?

Harvey shrugs.HARVEY

We have to keep the lights on somehow. The Senator has deep pockets and an ego that won’t let him admit defeat. It’s going to be a long, drawn out case, Marilyn. Pace yourself.

Marilyn drops everything and collapses exhausted into a nearby chair.

MARILYNThe Ambassador is up everybody’s ass over this. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s all the media attention. He hates the spotlight. I’ve been working around the clock making sure he’s ready for whatever your firm throws at him.

Harvey stands up and pours himself a whiskey on the rocks at a small bar near his desk. He points the bottle in her direction.

HARVEYDrink?

MARILYNMake it a double.

Harvey chuckles and pours her a glass. Marilyn reads the name plate on Harvey’s desk aloud.

MARILYN (CONT’D)“Harvey Cooper. Junior Associate.” So they finally promoted you out of that mailroom.

HARVEYA couple days before we started working on this case, actually.

MARILYNGood for you. I mean that.

He walks over and hands her the glass. He leans against his desk.

HARVEYRemember Cabo?

MARILYN(laughing)

Oh, god.HARVEY

Two broke interns on their first vacation together as a couple.

MARILYNIt rained the entire week!

Harvey moves to the chair next to Marilyn.HARVEY

So we just bought piña coladas from room service and watched Netflix.

Marilyn lets out a full, joyous laugh. Harvey laughs with her. She relaxes into the seat.

MARILYNStill, those were good times.

Harvey looks into her eyes.HARVEY

We can still have those good times.Marilyn straightens up in her chair.

MARILYNNo. We can’t.

HARVEYYou’re with someone?

MARILYNNo.

HARVEYThen why not? Let’s try again, Marilyn. I’m different now.

MARILYNYou’re the same man with more money. I can see it in your eyes. Yes, we had good times together but you couldn’t tell when you were hurting me emotionally, Harvey. Maybe you didn’t care.

HARVEYOf course I cared, Marilyn. Do you have any idea how hard it was for me to get over you? To get over the love we had?

MARILYNThat’s a kind of love I can’t handle right now. I lost focus. I almost lost my job obsessing over you.

Marilyn gathers her things and stands.MARILYN (CONT’D)

My career is my love now.HARVEY

From burning hot to icy cold. Looks like you haven’t changed either.

MARILYNGoodbye, Harvey.

HARVEYWe’re going to bury Costa.

MARILYNExcuse me?

HARVEYWe’re going to destroy his career, his name, hell, maybe even his family.

MARILYNWow. I always knew you could get bitter Harvey but this is a new level.

Harvey downs his drink, walks over to his desk, and pulls out a file. He walks back and hands it to Marilyn.

HARVEYYou want to know what’s got Costa so tense? Look inside.

Marilyn does. She’s shocked at what she sees.HARVEY (CONT’D)

Those are pictures of the honorable Ambassador Costa having sex with...

Harvey points down at the picture as he counts.

HARVEY (CONT’D)One. Two. Three prostitutes. I’m not one to judge a man but, considering that Costa says he’s a devout Catholic and his country is very religious, I’m willing to bet he’s not going to be holding his position for too much longer. Which means neither will you.

MARILYNYou son of a bitch. This is an invasion of his privacy! We’ll have these pictures barred from the case.

HARVEYAnd then we’ll just leak them to the press and let the court of public opinion decide his fate.

Harvey walks back to his desk and continues to work on his computer. He pats the box of travel logs.

HARVEY (CONT’D)But thanks for the travel logs. I’ll be sure to flip through them.

MARILYNYou’re doing all of this just because I won’t date you again? So if I had given into your pathetic attempt at winning me back, what? You would have burned the photos?

HARVEYMaybe. I guess we’ll never know.

MARILYNYou just made this personal, Harvey. I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure you and your shitty little firm are humiliated for this.

Marilyn marches toward the door.HARVEY

Marilyn.Marilyn turns.

MARILYN(seething)

What?HARVEY

At least we’ll always have Cabo, right?

MARILYNGo to hell, Harvey.
