The most valuable feature for me particularly within the enterprise space and what CA does is that they provide an integrated central approach to monitoring. No matter what tool we’re using whether it’s a phone system or whether it’s a storage system, whether it’s Unix or Windows, whether it’s an access point or a firewall, it can all be seen in a common pane of glass where you can see everything. All of our staff can all be trained on the same tool and then other people can see all the dependent infra- structure within the same tool. We have the solution across all the produc- tion servers in our operation. We have seen, over the last 4 or 5 years, about a 30%... It gives us an insight on what we need to monitor on our network. We get granulated data on where issues are occurring... The intelligent agents which allows for detailed instruction sets to be deployed to systems. It has a limit, like any product, on the num- bers of systems that can be managed. The scalability of the product and heteroge- neous OS coverage is really what sets this product apart from others. Other features... Single page view of all the servers lets me monitor them at a glance. I can expand and see all the details at as single click expand. Administration interface, in particular the infrastructure manager. The event console could also use a make-over. I would say the NPM toolset has room for improvement. I haven’t seen the benefit of integrating it into NPM. Correlation Outage handling. I have deployed the product in multiple environments and across multiple OS types without issue. We had some issues with getting failover polling engines working properly and were forced to abandon the effort... The products are not plug and play even though HP has improved implementation over the years... It’s very stable, and more importantly, it sup- ports failover components, which is a great feature. No issues encountered. No issues with scalability, the product can be used in a large enterprise. Different ad- mins can manage their scope of devices... No issues encountered.
