mainframe academy CA Education works closely with our customers to understand current market trends and
responds by creating leading and cutting edge training solutions. Never before has it been
so critical to provide the training necessary to prepare a new generation focus on
Mainframe.
It is widely recognized that essential Mainframe Skills are leaving the workforce- through
retirement, attrition and a general shortage of next generation mainframe programmers.
Businesses have a need to replace these skills by cross training existing Information
Systems’ professionals and providing detailed mainframe training to recent IT graduates
who may have had little exposure to mainframes. CA Technologies is uniquely positioned to
address these concerns with CA Mainframe Academy.
CA Mainframe Academy offers more than 220 hours of training focusing on a targeted
spectrum of mainframe processing, programming concepts and applications and is
designed to rapidly grow students from limited knowledge of mainframes to certified
specialists in a short period of time providing an accelerated path to a professional z/OS
career as a systems or application programmer.
This vendor agnostic program is delivered in a unique and innovative format with a focus on
‘real-world’ scenarios. CA Mainframe Academy blends web and instructor led training, has a
“dean” for each class, and leverages modern social media tools for enhanced collaboration
and practical learning.
Mainframe Academy with CA Technologies is scheduled 3 times a year and students who
join the program can attend as many classes as they would like. This allows the students
the flexibility to re enforce their learning, complete the program in their own time or sooner
if required.
At the completion of the academy, students will have the opportunity to become Certified
Mainframe professionals – showcasing their mastery of Mainframe skills regardless of
hardware, applications or environment.

Certified Mainframe
Professional
by CA Technologies
Mainframe Academy is a certification program. It is proctored by a third party and
establishes authoritative credentials at defensible costs for the investment. CA
Technologies wanted Mainframe Academy to be certifiable, undisputable and to
reach the highest of standards. This program is vendor agnostic and as such, we
needed rigorous testing. That is why when you earn the distinction of Certified
Mainframe Professional by CA Technologies, it is recognizable.
Being a Certified Mainframe Professional is meaningful for CA Technologies, for you,
for businesses and for the technical community.
At the conclusion of this program, some examples of what participants should be
able to do include:
• Perform basic programming and application development in z/OS
• Issue job-level commands for z/OS job output.
• Partition z/OS in a real and virtual environment
• Perform basic troubleshooting
• Issue JES commands for batch jobs, monitor those jobs, and analyze problems
• Create, copy, delete and change data sets

learn I can learn more about the mainframe and am excited about
the prospect of growing my career with the mainframe. As a
mainframe software developer, Mainframe Academy with
CA Technologies helped me look at the mainframe from a system
programmer perspective. My core skills are in Assembler and z/OS.
I wanted to learn valuable and practical mainframe capabilities so
when I write code, I can imagine how it may be used.
It is important not only to have mainframe skills, but to be able
to apply those in the real world. I believe the mainframe will
grow and evolve and I will be able to evolve with it. This is what
Mainframe Academy offers: opportunity, growth and skills. The
mainframe is synonymous with powerful computing capability, and
I want to be a part of that.
Marlaina Chirdon

discover
I can discover new ways to utilize and leverage the mainframe.
As a 26 year veteran of distributed platforms, I had avoided the
mainframe. I am now seeing a shift in the way companies use
their mainframe technology and an increase in the number of
applications moving to z/OS. I recognized I needed to move with
them and enhance my skill set, even in the middle of my career.
With Mainframe Academy, I am more self-sufficient and am
able resolve more issues on my own. In the past, I took a lot of
courses and could not recall the content a year later. Mainframe
Academy with CA Technologies is different. Because of the multi-
sensory approach, I was able to fully grasp the material. I was
able to gather and retain the skills I need to remain competitive
and effective.
