The desert is the hottest region. It is hot and dry.

Death valley only has 2 inches of rain a year! The regular one is 10 inches of rain a year.

Is a farmland which has lots of water.

Its also where California gets its grapes.

The Coast Region

The coast is where you go to the beach. It is also the most popular region in California. It has cool winters and warm summers.

The mountain region is the home to the timber industry. The Mount Everest is the highest mountain in he world

James Cook

James Cook was born in Britain.

He was a mapmaker and a sailor. He was in the British navy. He mapped New Zealand and Australia in a ship called Endeavor.

Sir Francis Drake

Sir Francis Drake was the first pirate to steal the Spanish treasures. He was sent by the England queen to steal Spanish treasures. He stopped at California to repair the hull.

Vitus Bering

Vitus Bering named the waterway that connected the tip of Russia to Alaska.

He named it the Bering Strait.

Christopher Columbus

Christopher Columbus real name in Italy was Cólon. He called native Americans Indians because he thought he was in the Indies .

Father Serra

Father Serra had built nine of the mission.

It made Indians be roman catholic.

MISSION

Gaspar De Portola

A Spain soldier named Gaspar De Portola. He led an expedition present day Monterey.

Presidios

Missions need protection so they built forts. Presidios are houses for the soldiers who protect the missions.

pueblos

Pueblos were farming villages which gave the missions food. They had flat roofs to go on. They have no rain because there in the desert.

John Sutter

John Sutter is from Switzerland.

In 1841 John Sutter built Sutters fort.

Ivan Kuskov

In 1812, Ivan Kuskov made Fort Ross to hunt beavers.

Ivan Kuskov is Russian.

Jedidiah Smith.Jeddidiah Smith is a

trapping man who went to California.

The 49ers are miners who came in the year 1849.

They were people who came for gold. They were people who made boomtowns.

Sam Brannon

Sam Brannon was a shop owner who bought all the mining gear and sold it for a higher price.

Levi Strauss is a person who took all the denim from the ships that people sailed to look for

gold. His friend is a person who made pockets for Levi's

Biddy Mason was a slave who got sent to Ca and petitioned for freedom.

Mary Tape

Mary Tape is a Chinese person who wanted her children to go to school at Ca. So she sued Ca government for her children to go to school.

Mexican American war

It was a war between Americans and Mexicans.
