A book exhibition was organized in the Periodical Section of the Library on 13th April 2018 on the occasion of Birth Anni-versary of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar (14th April 2018). Books written by Dr. Ambedkar and written on his life, work, philosophies, etc. were exhibited. The ex-hibition was inaugurated by the Respected Principal Dr. B.B. Sharma. Dr. (Mrs) Shub-hangi Bhave – Vice Principal, Degree Col-lege, CA Vidyadhar Joshi, Vice Principal, Junior College, CA Anil Naik- Chairman, Library Committee, Members of the Li-brary Committee, members of the teach-ing and non-teaching staff as well as stu-

dents graced the occasion. Important and inspiring quotations of Dr. Ambedkar were displayed prominently at the entrance of the Periodical Section of the Library where

the exhibition was organized.

Earlier in the morning, a photo frame of Dr. Ambedkar was garlanded by the Re-spected Principal Dr. B.B. Sharma and other dignitaries, in the ground floor foyer. Biography along with important quotations of Dr. Ambedkar were also displayed to

inspire the youth.

Truly, the activity we are involved in can hardly be called education. It is nei-ther higher nor education. But nobody dare to say so as we have vested interest in it. elements are terribly missing from today’s education. It is being underused, if not mis-used. The learning has been taken over by earnings and teaching has been sidelined by so called continuous evaluation. It caters to handful of students by leaving majority of students on their destiny. As the system lacks holistic approach towards inclusive education it is not going to sustain in the long run. It is time to get the fundamentals right instead of going for myopic solutions which will lead us nowhere. Doing things well has no sense unless they need to be done. We do things right, but don’t do right things.

The period from April to June 2018 saw a transition phase from outgoing Library Committee and the incoming Library Committee. Dr. Prakash Parab, Head- Department of Marathi took over as the new Chairman of the Library Committee from the outgo-ing Chairman, CA Anil Naik. The new Chairman was briefed about the library activities held during the academic year 2017-18 and also about activities that were planned but could not be organized. The idea behind this was that this briefing would help the new Committee to include these pending activi-ties while planning the roadmap of library activities for the academic year 2018-19.

Superannuation of Mr.Sambhaji Otavnekar, Library Attendant

Mr. Sambhaji Otavnekar, Library Attendant, retired on 30-June-2018 after a dedicated service of 32 years in our library. A felicitation function was organised in the Library on 29-June-2018. Along with the Library Staff, CA Anil Naik - Ex- Chairman, Library Committee and Dr. Prakash Parab - the current Chairman, Library Committee and Prof. Chandrakant Shinde - Teacher-in Charge, Dept. of Marathi (Junior College) graced the occasion and felicitated him. Mr. Sambhaji Otavnekar has been an efficient, hardworking and a reliable staff member throughout his tenure. He will be missed by Teachers and students alike for his abilities to locate the required books in the library. We wish him a happy and healthy retired life.

Books, quotations, clippings, etc. are displayed to raise awareness relevant to various social, economic, historical, scientific and literary topics. The following displays were arranged during the period April to June 2018:

1. On the occasion of International Yoga Day on 21-June, books on Yoga were displayed in the Reference Section from 21-Jun-2018 to 30-Jun-2018. Information about Yoga at workplace and informative, inspiring quotations about the importance of Yoga in everybody’s life were displayed on the Library Notice Board and on the Digital Display in the Ground Floor Foyer.

their the importance were displayed on the occasion from 23-April-2018 to 02-May-2018. Clippings from English and Marathi newspapers were displayed.

B) World Environment Day – 05th June: Newspaper clippings based on various issues related to the environment

were displayed on the occasion from 05-June-2018 to 14-June-2018. Photographs depicting the ‘Green Initiatives undertaken by Vaze College’ like the Composting Unit, Solar Energy Panels installation, replacing of tubelights

with LED tubelights, Greenhouse, etc. were also displayed for information.
