The obvious exceptions are when students are eating or drinking. Students will not be required to wear a mask while outside. Masks with valves are not permitted Gator masks are not permitted Exterior doors to the lobby will be propped open at drop-off and pick-up each day; a staff member will be posted at these doors for safety reasons Interior doors will remain open throughout the day for air circulation and to eliminate a shared “high-contact” surface (doorknob) Air filtration units have been placed in all classrooms and will be in operation throughout the school day; these individual units are most effective when classroom doors are closed As long as temperatures permit, windows will remain open from 7:30-3:10 p.m. each day. When temperatures no longer permit, we will be opening all classroom windows to flush rooms with fresh air at least three times each day Remote Academy will not be offered for the 2021-22 school year. Just as prior to the pandemic, the alternatives to in-person learning is home schooling. In rare and extreme cases, where the physical health of a child is at increased risk, as documented in writing by a medical professional specialist, remote tutoring may be provided. Please communicate directly with the school principal if you feel your child meets this criteria.

Processes & Procedures

Schedule Changes

● Students will not be permitted on the property prior to 7:30 a.m. Parents should considertheir work schedule now and make any necessary arrangements; Students are to arrivebetween 7:30 and 8:00; They will bypass the gym and report directly to their classroom.

● All meals will be eaten in the classroom; Breakfasts and lunches from the cafeteria willbe delivered to classrooms.

● Recesses will be held on the playground but will be staggered. There will only ever beone grade-level on the playground at a time. There will only ever be two grade-levels onthe playground at a time, a compromise between what is in the best interest of ourstudents physical health and wht is in the best interest of their social/emotional health

● Our monthly All-School Sing will continue, but all students will participate remotely,from classrooms. We will be suspending Attendance Awards for the year. We will bereinstating Attendance Awards this year. Remarkably, attendance last year was at an alltime high in the winter months. What chance does the common cold have against thepreventative measures we’ve put in place for COVID-19?!

● There will be no field trips requiring vehicular transportation this year. We will bereinstating field trips this year, but only to outdoor venues

Building Preparations

● All hallways will be one-directional. Floor decals will be placed throughout the buildingto clearly designate the appropriate direction of each hall.

● Spickets on water fountains will be disabled. Bottle-fillers will remain operational.Families are encouraged to send their children to school each day with a full water bottle.

● Hand sanitizer dispensers will be placed throughout the halls and in every classroom.● Bathrooms will be designated for particular grade-levels. Floor decals will be placed 6’

apart outside each bathroom to adequately space students waiting to use the bathroom. Inbathrooms with 3 toilets, the center toilet will be closed to reduce capacity and to ensureadequate physical distancing. Plexiglass shields will be installed between sinks.

● All classrooms will be set up with a desk for each student. These desks will be spaced 6’apart and will all face the same direction. Students will be assigned a desk.

● In setting up rooms to allow for proper social distancing, not all furniture will continue tofit in the classrooms. We will be "warehousing" furniture from around the building in ourgymnasium for the school year.

● The Nurse's Office and Staff Room will be inverted for the school year. What hashistorically been the Staff Room will serve as the traditional Nurse’s Office. What hashistorically been the Copy Room, adjoining the Staff Room, will serve as a resting placefor students with symptoms characteristic of COVID 19 while they are waiting for theirparent/guardian to pick them up. In this way a student requiring a bandaid or routinemedication will not be exposed to another student who is potentially contagious. Chairswill be arranged 6’ apart in the hall outside the Nurse’s Office. Students will wait here tosee the nurse. They will be required to wear a mask while waiting. The Library, StaffRoom, and Copy Room have all been fully restored to their pre-pandemic configuration.We have found new temporary housing for the Nurse’s Office on the ground level.

● Pencil cases have been ordered for each individual student. Each student will receivetheir own materials for the school year, so that scissors, markers, crayons, etc. are notshared. These pencil cases will transition home with students if the need arises to revertto full Remote Learning.

● Every student in grades 1-4 will be issued their own chromebook for the school year.These machines will remain at school unless the need arises to revert to full RemoteLearning, in which case chromebooks will transition home with students.

Daily Practices

● Library, Art, and Music will be taught in the classrooms. PE will be taught outside asweather permits; in inclement weather, PE will be held in the classrooms. All specialswill be back in their original classrooms this school year. Requisite cleaning will be donebetween classes.

● Only students and Mascoma staff members will be permitted in the building. Volunteersand other visitors to the building (all non-district employees/students) will be required topresent proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test result from the last 48 hours at theFront Office in order to gain admittance. Parent/Teacher Conferences will be heldremotely, as will IEP and 504 meetings. (All internal meetings - Staff, Team, SST, SEW,etc. will also be conducted remotely.) Four Winds has been suspended for the school year.Parents/guardians will be permitted to walk their child to the front door. Parents will alsobe permitted inside the vestibule by the Front Office, on the Lebanon side of the building.

● Every teacher in Mascoma will have a Google Classroom setup at the outset of the schoolyear. Students will be oriented in Google Classroom during opening weeks. Manyassignments will be disseminated and collected through Google Classroom, even whileadhering to a brick-and-mortar model. All assignments will be disseminated and collectedthrough Google Classroom, should the need arise to revert to a full remote model.

● Treats for birthdays or other special events must be individually sealed. As much as weprefer the home baked goods frosted in the birthday boy or girl’s favorite color, this isjust not the year for it. As always, no family should feel obligated to send in anything;we’ll celebrate your daughter or son’s birthday with them either way!

Pick-up and Drop-off

● Drop off (7:30-8:00 a.m.)○ 7:25 a.m. Bus Gate near playground will be opened○ 7:30 a.m. Bus Gate near lobby will be opened○ 7:30 a.m. Students first allowed to set foot on property

■ All cars AND buses are to enter campus on Lebanon-side■ After passing through Bus Gate near playground, students should

reposition themselves next to passenger-side doors and prepare to unload■ All cars AND buses will drop students directly in front of lobby doors on

Canaan-side■ All students arriving to campus in a vehicle will enter the building through

the lobby doors on Canaan-side and report directly to their classroom■ All cars AND buses will exit campus on Canaan-side■ All students arriving to campus on foot are to enter the building through

the lobby doors on Lebanon-side and report directly to their classroom■ All IRS/MHS students must wait for a bus on the Canaan-side; IRS/MHS

students will not be permitted to cross the lobby or otherwise enter EVS■ The exception to these guidelines are those parents/guardians picking up

and dropping off preschool students. These parents/guardians arepermitted to park on the Lebanon side of the building and are expected toleave their vehicle and pick their child up on the preschool playspace.

● Pick up (2:50-3:20 p.m.)○ 2:50 p.m. Bus Gates will be opened

■ EVS is a closed campus between the hours of 2:30 and 2:50 p.m.■ All cars are to enter campus on the Lebanon-side■ Staff Member will radio to the Front Office■ Front Office will announce the names of students being dismissed over PA■ Students are to make their way directly to the lobby when name announced■ All cars will pick students up directly in front of the lobby doors on the

Canaan-side of the building■ If parents would like to spend time with their children on the playground

after school, you must arrive and depart campus on foot.■ All cars are to exit campus on Canaan-side

○ 3:00 p.m. All students departing campus on foot will exit through lobby doors onLebanon-side

○ 3:07 p.m. Front Office will announce the dismissal of Afterschool Participants

■ After School Program Participants are to make their way directly to the gym○ 3:15 p.m. Front Office will announce the dismissal of Bus Riders

■ Students riding Bus M1 will report to the lobby and will exit out the lobbydoors on the Canaan-side to board their bus

■ Students riding Bus M2 will report to the gym and will exit out the gymdoors to board their bus

■ Students riding Bus M14 will report to the K/PK wing and will exit out thedoor by Estes’ Classroom to board their bus

■ Students riding Bus M3 will report to the lobby and will exit out the lobbydoors on the Lebanon-side to board their bus

■ IRS/MHS students disembarking in a vehicle are to meet their ride in theStaff Parking Lot

■ IRS/MHS students disembarking on foot must depart campus upon arrival

● Bus○ All students riding the bus will be assigned a seat○ The bus driver and all students will be expected to wear a mask at all times while

riding the bus - no mask-breaks on the bus○ All windows will be open for the entire ride, as long as weather permits - layering

is recommended in the mornings○ If it is possible to transport your child in a private vehicle, we strongly encourage

you to do so - there will be no caps to ridership this year related to the pandemicand social distancing; we will continue to comply with all preexisting NH Statelaws pertaining to the occupancy of district buses
