COLOSSIANS 3:1,2

“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is,

sitting at the right hand of God. Set

your mind on things above, not on things

on the earth.

COLOSSIANS 3:3,4

“For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is

our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

1.Seek: “To discover; to obtain.”

2. Set Mind: “To think; continual thinking ; devotion.”

WHAT IT MEANS TO SEEK...

B. What We Are To Seek: Things above

1. Opposed to things of earth (chapter 2)

2. Spiritual things - pertain to serving Christ

C. What This Means:- To the Colossians:

“Those whom Paul had been describing in the previous chapter sought for a higher mode of living, but it fell short of that which the Christian is to pursue. Their quest for mystical experiences was limited to the low level of such created existences as the principalities and powers, and their emphasis on asceticism (“touch not, taste not, handle not”) kept them bound to matters on the earth. The contrast is between things that are only subordinate and instrumental (things of earth) and things that are supreme and final (things of heaven).”

But there will be this difference - from now on the Christian will see everything in the light and against the background of eternity. He will no longer live as if this world was all that mattered; he will see this world against the background of the larger world of eternity.
