C How to Find and Activate Business Functions
This appendix explains how to check what release you are using and find and activate the relevant business functions.
This book is illustrated with screenshots from test and demo systems on
EHP 7 for SAP ERP 6.0. To know whether you can use the features described,
it’s important to know which release you’re using and whether your organi-
zation has implemented the relevant business function (assuming it’s avail-
able in that release).
Release Levels
To find out what release you’re on, select System • Status. This will take you
to the System: Status popup shown in Figure C.1.
The entry in the Component Version field tells us that this system is on EHP 7
for SAP ERP 6.0. Because an enhancement package generally comprises
multiple software packages, you should then check the entries for SAP_APPL
(all releases) and SAP_FIN (from EHP 7), because these contain the code for
controlling modules. To do this, click on the icon under Component Version
and scroll to the entries for the software components SAP_APPL and SAP_FIN,
shown in Figure C.2. Here you can see that both SAP_APPL and SAP_FIN are on
Release 617 (the SAP Business Suite on SAP HANA release). You’ll also notice
the SP-Level, which is important when you are checking whether legal
changes or some of the SAP HANA-related enhancements that we discussed
in Chapter 13 are available in your system.

Now that you know what software release you’re using, you can check
whether certain functions have been activated.

Enterprise Extensions and Business Functions
The enterprise extensions and business functions are activated using
Transaction SFW5. Normally, end users don’t have change access to this
transaction, but many organizations allow their users to display the entries.
You’ll have to talk to an administrator about activating the business func-
tion you need, but if you have display authorization, do your homework
first. Because the business function controls what menus are visible, what
functions are active within a transaction, and what fields are shown, if the
screen you see looks different from the one in this book there’s a chance
that you have not activated a business function (or that other business
functions are active that were not switched on in our example).
Figure C.3 shows the warning message you will see when you call Transac-
tion SFW5 unless you have administrator rights.
Figure C.3 Message about Accessing the Switch Framework
The switch framework was used for the first time in Release 4.7. You’ll find
the enterprise extensions in the first folder. The business functions were

used for the first time in the context of enhancement packages for SAP ERP
6.0. If you’re using an industry-specific system, you’ll find a third folder for
industry enhancements (not active in our demo system).
Figure C.4 shows all the enterprise extensions. You’ll need to activate the
financials extensions (EA_FIN) to use the following functions described in
this book:
Alternative Valuation Run (Chapter 7, Section 7.3.3)
Revaluation of Consumption (Chapter 7, Section 7.3.2)
Distribution of Usage Variances (Chapter 6, Section 6.2)
Manually Change Actual Cost Component Split (Chapter 7, Section 7.3.2)
Valuated Quantity Structure (Chapter 2, Figure 2.31 and Chapter 6, Figure
6.23)
 Closing Cockpit (Chapter 12)
Financials Extensions EA_FIN
Before activating the financials extensions, make sure that you read the docu-
mentation carefully and talk with the rest of your Financials team, because EA_FIN also activates functions in Asset Accounting and Financial Accounting.

Now open up the Enterprise Business Functions folder. Figure C.5 shows
some of the business functions in an EHP 7 system. Note that they’re much
smaller than the enterprise extensions—for example, EA_FIN activates mul-
tiple functions in SAP ERP Financials. If multiple enhancements have been
made to a business function over the course of several enhancement pack-
ages, then you’ll see multiple business functions with similar names, so FIN_
ACC_LOCAL_CLOSE contains the enhancements to the Closing Cockpit in EHP 3,
FIN_ACC_LOCAL_CLOSE_2 contains the enhancements to the Closing Cockpit
introduced in EHP 5, and FIN_ACC_LOCAL_CLOSE_3 contains the enhancements
to the Closing Cockpit introduced in EHP 6 (see Chapter 12). Activating FIN_
ACC_LOCAL_CLOSE_3 will automatically activate FIN_ACC_LOCAL_CLOSE and FIN_ACC_
LOCAL_CLOSE_2.

You’ll need to activate the business functions shown in Table C.1 to use cer-
tain features described in this book.

Business Function Details
Transaction SFW5 contains links to much that will support your decision to
activate a business function, including a release note, the relevant docu-
mentation, and a link to a test catalog that will guide you through how to
test the new function.
Figure C.6 shows the test catalog for business function FIN_CO_COGM (dis-
cussed throughout Chapter 7). Clicking on the icons will take you into a
description of how to test in your own system.

After reading this appendix, you’ll know what to do if menus or screen
fields referenced in the text are not visible in your system.
