Editor, The Battalion: Several of my constituents have contacted me in a shocked state about the wounding- of an A&M student by a Texas University student during the Thanksgiving weekend. This was the general consen- susalthough the A&M student was on private property, and was bent on the destruction of an Aggie Sign, it was felt that in the heated TU-A&M rivalry there is a quasigentlemansagree- mentwhereby the students of both schools may raidthe cam- pus of the other school and de- stroy spirit signs, steal various mascots, and paint various signs within discretion. It was also felt that the de- fense against such “raids, again in accord with the gentlementsagreement, does not include the use of bodily harm, except in cases of self-defense against bod- ily harm. Welcome SCONAApproximately 150 delegates and speakers from Canada,

Mexico and all parts of the United States arrived today for the fourth Student Conference on National Affairs. We’re mighty proud of SCONA and of Texas A&;M and we welcome the visitors from all of North America to our campus.

Purpose of the conference is to promote enlightened and responsible citizenship through free discussion of cruitial issues—to this end it has been successful in years past. Only by increasing the number of students seeing and hearing the discussions could this end be furthered.

This year’s conference promises to be the best ever: the men of Texas A&M can well be proud to be hosts to such a program of democracy in action. . .

Editor,The Battalion:

Several of my constituents have contacted me in a shocked state about the wounding- of an A&M student by a Texas University student during the Thanksgiving weekend.

This was the general consensus—although the A&M student was on private property, and was bent on the destruction of an “Aggie Sign”, it was felt that in the heated TU-A&M rivalry there is a quasi—“gentlemans’ agreement”—whereby the students of both schools may “raid” the campus of the other school and destroy spirit signs, steal various mascots, and paint various signs within discretion.

It was also felt that the defense against such “raids”, again in accord with the “gentlements’ agreement”, does not include the use of bodily harm, except in cases of self-defense against bodily harm.

I pointed out that the point in law is that a man may protect his property, but that he may not injure the aggressor until he has tried every other means available.

This is to let A&M students know that some students at the University of Texas do not condone a coward for shooting a man in the back from a darkened doorway or window.

Editor,The Battalion:

Friday a thidf entered my room in Walton and stole my billfold and my roommate’s.

The two wallets contained about $100 and apparently, the person stealing the money needed it. But I wonder if he needed the valuable papers in the billfolds. Many of them will be hard to replace and some can never be duplicated.

If the person concerned would be so kind as to leave them where they can be found or send an unsigned letter to the Campus Se

curity or The Battalion telling of their location, we would be thankful for small favors.
