Term 3 - Week 5 P & C meet THIRD Monday of every MONTH, 7.00pm Thurs 18 August, 2011
FROM THE PRINCIPAL:
This week: We’re really sorry
Stranger Danger
Staffing Rule of the Week
We’re really sorry
We have had a really busy term and it’s only week 5. Many sporting
teams have been training and playing including soccer, touch,
basketball and netball, violinists have performed, chess teams have
been winning, University tests in writing, maths and spelling have
been conducted, we’ve been performing at night, dancing at discos,
enjoying treats at the canteen and planning for excursions and book
fairs. All this is great stuff and part of what we have always done,
but just lately we have crammed a lot of events into a short space
of time. We realise we have stretched your time and budgets and
really appreciate the support you are giving the teachers and the P
& C and will try to either time our events a little better or cut down
the number of activities we do in the future.
Stranger Danger From time to time it is important to remind children of ways they
can protect themselves from harm. With an increase in the number
of younger children using social networking sites, parents need to
be very vigilant in teaching children about online stranger danger as
well as face-to-face stranger danger.
Schools teach children protective behaviours so that children have a
raised awareness of the issue without unnecessarily alarming them.
Parents can help by role-playing situations where children can
practise a variety of protective behaviours or scenarios such as
giving out personal information online or accepting gifts or getting
in cars with people they don’t know.
Some simple advice to increase children’s safety before and after
school is to have children walk or travel together in groups to school
and not arrive before 8.20am when supervision commences. After
school it is very important that children are confident in knowing
how they are expected to get home including catching a bus,
knowing who is picking them up and from where, and leaving the
school grounds straight after school. At times there are a number of
children who wait around for older brothers or sisters or parents
who are late in collecting them. Our before and after school care
service can be of help here. Parents are reminded that there is no
substitute for good supervision and that, if necessary, you should
report any instances of stranger danger to the Police Assistance Line
(PAL) 131 444.
Staffing
I want to thank Mrs Loida Anorga who has very capably filled a
casual vacancy in our school office for almost twelve months. Loida
is a fantastic member of our school admin staff and has been a very
valuable addition to our team. This vacancy has now been filled
through transfer and I can announce that Mrs Theresa Reinhard will
commence with us from next Monday. Our many thanks go to Loida
and our welcome is extended to Theresa.
Rule(s) of the Week
This week’s rules are about moving between classes.
Teachers and students practised and talked about these
expectations:-
1. Go directly to where you are going 2. Walk quietly
3. Be in the right place at the right time
4. Leave the playground quickly so that lessons are not held
up 5. Arrive on time
6. Have the correct equipment
7. Stay in your lines
8. Stay on the path 9. Be prompt
10. Keep to the left
These expectations are important so that students are able to
walk safely between rooms without disturbing or interrupting
other students and teachers. Being prompt allows lessons to
start on time.
Hope you had a great week at our great school!

BOOK SWAP Indigenous Literacy Day
Wednesday 7 September – 11.30am
The Great Book Swap Challenge is a fundraising event in which students
swap books with one another. Participating students bring along a gold
coin and a book they’ve read and enjoyed. All these pre-loved books are
put together in the hall, and students then choose a “new” book they
would like to keep.
Bring your book and gold coin to the lunchtime activities room over the
next 3 weeks. On Indigenous Literacy Day, Wednesday 7 September, all
students who have brought a book and coin to school (and have taken their
book to the lunchtime activities room) will be invited to select a new book
for themselves.
So don’t forget - bring a book, bring a coin, and help raise money for new
books for indigenous students all around Australia!
