What is Byron Reads?

• In addition to increasing the amount of reading we’re ALL doing, we’re also promoting the exploration of new/different genres that we typically don’t read.

The Process:

• There will be three areas of competition: – between Advisory classes – between individual students – between individual staff members

• All participants will submit the books they’ve completely read

during each six week period through an electronic book submission form.

• Each participant must include 140 character review of each book they read on the submission form (examples on the library website).

The Process:

• The library will review all submission forms to verify, award and track points for both individuals and Advisory classes as a whole.

• Advisory classes, students and staff, will earn two points for every completed book that falls under the genre of focus for that six week period, and one point for every completed book outside that genre.

• In order to be awarded points, each completed book must be properly reviewed on the electronic book submission form.

What We’re Asking of You:• Promote this initiative to your students, and protect the time

given during Advisory to implement this initiative wholly.

• Let them see you read!

• Look for opportunities to start and facilitate discussions with your Advisory students about what everyone is reading, or what you’re reading!

• Remind your students of deadlines for submitting books for each six week period, and let them know that their reading outside of Advisory and their other classes absolutely counts!
