As December glides towards closure, the moment of review comes nearer. It is now time to recall the targets that we had set, the plans that we had made at the beginning of the year. In 2014, we have been principally endeavouring to reach out in new directions, come up with new initiatives, apart from the broad targets of growth, where the number of trainees this year has crossed all previous records.

The ESDPs, sponsored by our Ministry under the ATI scheme, flourished very well everywhere especially in IT and ITES, and food processing sectors. The Institute has conducted, in the nine months since April, about 600 Skill Development Programmes in which around 17,500 unemployed youths were trained in 42 different trades by ni-msme along with 32 Partner Institutions. For the first time in the history of the Institute, we held a series of job fairs/talent melas to match the right set of skills with the right employer. This year we made a beginning in a new sector, with specialised ESDPs for construction and building workers for the A.P. Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.

Other new directions include Development of Master Trainers in Entrepreneurship, Development of Rural Clusters, Business Development Plans for MSEs, training initiatives in agripreneurship and skill upgradation. Study of Pochampally Handloom Park, and evaluation and re-engineering of RICs/DICs and DI of Odisha state. Talking of DICs’ re-engineering, DIC revitalisation programmes are on the anvil for other states too.

We have tried to give more focus to serving the states: the long series of induction training for IPOs/IEOs for the states of Bihar, Orissa, Kerala and Meghalaya has a structure entirely different from the usual training programmes, and is practically-oriented. The series will continue.

There were the interventions in leadership training for young managers, crisis management, post-training services to business membership organisations, strategic approaches for MSMEs and so on. The programme on regional perspectives for the developing and the developed countries is an intervention amenating from an entirely new vision and new approach.

The intervention in patent drafting and interpretation is a clear indicator of the growing awareness/enthusiasm among the MSEs regarding the IPR. Apart from the new trail of programmes in CSR for NMDC, we had also under taken a study on HR climate and employee satisfaction for them. The programmes on e-marketing and cluster branding are first attempts to orient the MSEs towards the profitable application of these concepts in their business development. Also, we have been focusing more on on-site interventions, to suit the convenience of the clients.

Our faculty had participated in the Global Economic Summit 2014. The international conference on stress management, the workshop in waste management and recycling, the international workshop on natural dyes, and the workshop on heritage arts and the art exhibition-cum-training intervention reveal our enthusiasm to touch new horizons. We shall continue the practice of foraying into new areas in the ensuing year.

Apart from observing all the nationally important occasions such as Ekta Diwas and Vigilance Week, we have joined in the Prime Minister’s new initiative, the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan, by cleaning up the campus, as also the various schools and departments through lean approach.

All this success is mainly due to the guidance and support of our Ministry of MSME. We, the ni-msme family, express our heart-felt gratitude to the Hon’ble Minister, the Secretary, the AS & DC, JS and other officials of the Ministry, and to the MEA for their support with respect to international programmes. We hope to receive their continued support in the coming times too. The achievement is also owing to the unstinted cooperation of the faculty and staff of the Institute. I look to them to keep up the commitment and team spirit, and work together to take the Institute forward towards new milestones.

Wish you all a very happy, prosperous and eventful 2015.
