The Water CycleCondensation: Condensation happens when water vapor transforms into liquid water. Condensation does not only happen in the clouds. I know this because... Condensation can happen in water bottles or containers. The Carbon

Dioxide CycleIf we had too many plants, then we would have too much oxygen in the air. If we had too many animals or pollution, then we would have too much carbon dioxide in the air.

Inherited Traits: When a trait is inherited it is a physical feature that is passed from a parent or family member to its offspring. Some examples are... eye color, hair color, skin color, needing glasses or not, or hitchhiker’s thumb. etc.Learned Traits: Born knowing how to do it. Some examples are... breathing, blinking, sleeping, crying, or moving. etc.

Inherited VS. Learned Traits

Food Web & Food Chain Vocab.Producer: Produces food for other living things. Ex: Plants, the

sun etc.

Consumer: Consumes food from other things. Ex: Animals, humans etc.

Herbivores: A living thing that eats only plants. Ex: Giraffe, deer etc.

Omnivores: A living thing that eats both plants and animals Ex: Humans etc.

Scavengers: A living thing that eats dead plants or animals. Ex: Vulture etc.

Niche: The role of a plant or animal in its environment. Ex: Zebra is food for lions and eats plants etc.

Decomposers: Things that break down dead plants and animals. Ex: Bacteria, fungi etc.

Herbivore Teeth: Very flat and not pointed. They are used to eat only plants.

Carnivore Teeth: Very sharp and pointed and not flat.A carnivore or a herbivore can not change their diet because their teeth are specifically made for eating one type of food.

If I take out one thing from the food chain below then...Sun—Seaweed—Seal—Polar Bear If I take out the sun then the whole food chain will

not function. If I take out the polar bears then there would be

more seals because the seals are no longer prey. If I take out the Seals then the polar bears would

have less to eat and there would be more seaweed

If I take out the Seaweed then the seals would have less to eat.

Complete metamorphosis has 4 stages and they go egg, larvae, pupa, adult. Incomplete metamorphosis has 3 stages and they go egg, nymph, adult.

Seed: Produces the plant and is reproductive

Flower: Where most of the energy goes. The plant depends on the flower to attract insects for successful pollination.

Leaf: Produces food for the whole plant.

Stem: Has tubes to carry food and water throughout the plant and also holds up the plant and its leafs.

Root: They hold the plant in the soil and suck up water and nutrients for the whole plant.

Plant Purposes

Not all plants will need the same amount of sunlight, water, and nutrients because if a plant is big, such as an oak tree it will need more of those resources but if the plant is small, such as a tulip then it will not need as much of those resources that the big plants need. etc.

3 ways seeds travel are...1.Wind and water

2.Hichiking onto animals and humans3.Animal poop

Traveling SeedsPros & Cons of Seed TravelPros: being able to reproduce in other places, able to plant in new locations. Cons: Flying into a new habitat where that type of plant can not live, being broken on the way.

Plant Population Decrease4 ways plants in an ecosystem could decrease

are...1. Increase in predators 2. Weather3. drought4. Pollution

3 adaptions a camel has for surviving in the desert are...1. 2 humps for storing water to drink2. 2 rows of long eyelashes to keep sand out of their eyes3. Wide feet for a “snowshoe” effect for not sinking into the sand

Some cactus adaptations are... Having thorns surrounding itself for protection also being able to store water for times of need.

The niche of a cactus is...Being food for insects and birds.

The Deciduous Forest:Has moderate sunlightHas Oak, Maple, and Hickory trees. Leafs fall and die in the winter and come back in the spring.Has Black bears. Most animals hibernate. Found in eastern U.S.A., Canada, Europe, China, Japan, and parts of Russia. The spacing of the trees is enough to create a canopy.

The Deciduous Forest

The TundraAnimals and their adaptations:Polar bears– Blubber to keep them warmArctic Fox– white fur used as camouflage to hide from predators.
