Who was Paul and what did he do? Paul describes himself as

a servant of Christ Jesus called to be an apostle set apart for the gospel of God

He taught the messages of Christ. He explained these messages and their

meanings to allow more people to understand and join in faith.

Geography & Paul’s First Missionary 44-46 CE

1) Tarsus- Paul was born here in 5BCE2) On the

way to Damascus to persecute Christians, Paul was struck down by the Lord, and converted to Christianity.

3) Paul’s 1st missionary journey began and ended in Antioch, and covered most of what is now Turkey

4) 49CE- Paul took part in the important council of Jerusalem, where the church decided its policy on important issues. Of particular importance was the issue of circumcision of gentiles- under the leadership of Paul, the church decided that this was not compulsory to be Christian.

5) 50CE The incident at Damascus. Paul has a public argument with Peter over Peter’s refusal to dine with gentiles.

Contemporary influence of Pauline Theology

The theology of St Paul is perhaps the most influential in the history of the church.

Formed the basis of the metaphysical and ethical doctrines of the Christian Church.

Paul taught acceptance, and that the Gentiles could follow Christ as well.

Without Paul, the Catholic Church may have became enough Jewish Sect. That means YOU would be circumcised.

Paul’s teachings of forgiveness

Corinthians 13:11:“Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice.Mend your ways, encourage one another,agree with one another, live in peace,and the God of love and peace will be with you.”

Paul taught universal acceptance of all humans.

Paul emphasised the Ten Commandments, as well as the seven ‘deadly sins’ and seven ‘principle virtues’.

Saladin Bac Haleli- BC1000 He had teachings very similar to Christs in certain matters such as redemption, but they never spread throughout the world. In this way, he failed to remove the evil from man.

Jesus died so that his teachings may spread around the world.Can you imagine a world today without the teachings of Christ.

Above all, Paul gives spiritual rest.

very good speaker. He relied on a passion for Christ and his writings to get across the message.

Paul was educated in Jerusalem under the famous Jewish teacher Gamaliel.

Paul participated in the stoning of St Stephen, the first Christian martyr. This was before his conversion.
