LA UNION, SAN FERNANDO

•The Garden is situated on a hilly twenty- hectare land.
•Eight kilometers east form the city proper of San Fernando, La Union
Christ the Redeemer
•In grateful thanksgiving to the City of San Fernando.
•Congressman Victor F. Ortega and Former Mayor Mary Jane C. Ortega and their family personally commissioned the 25 foot statue of Christ the Redeemer at Reservoir Hill.
Beaches
•Splendid beaches adorn the city’s coastline.
•It can be found in eleven of the coastal barangays of the city supplementing these are resorts and wide row picnic sheds.
Kasay Marine Sanctuary
•100 out of 400 coral species in the Philippines are found in the Kasay MPA
•70-100 years olds coral growth
•Estimated 50 years old giant clam (Tridacna gigas) was found in the MPA

History Of La Union San Fernando
San Fernando was founded in 1786. In 1759, Augustinian friar, Padre Jose Torres fused these 2
settlements to Pindangan (dry fish),. where a church with San Guillermo the Hermit as the patron saint. This Church is now the Cathedral of St. William the Hermit. The frayle Father The massive 1860's earthquake destroyed the church which was later rebuilt.
In the 1896 revolt until in 1898, the Spanish garrison of San Fernando was attacked by Filipino insurgents under Manuel Tinio y Bundoc and Mauro Ortiz whereby, the Spaniards were finally ousted.
