A wonderful romance (especially for teenage girls)
Takes place somewhere between 1811-1820
An excellent movie, well written and well produced
Based on the book by Jane Austen
The Bennet family: Mr and Mrs., Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Katie, and Lydia
Daughters goal is to marry well (in reality the mother’s goal
There is a ball where Mr. Bingley falls in love with Jane and Elizabeth meets Mr. Darcy who she doesn’t like.
Jane catches a cold so forced to stay at Netherfield with Bingley
Elizabeth stays with Jane and Darcy realizes his attraction to her
The Bennets return to their home and Mr. Collins arrives and maries Charlotte Lucas (Elizabeth’s best friend)
Then Mr. Darcy and the Bingleys leave town and provide no further contact
Elizabeth visits Charlotte and Mr. Collins in there new home and meets Lady Catherine. Mr. Darcy and Coronel Fitzwilliam are with Lady Catherine
Elizabeth finds our it was Darcy who led Bingley away from her sister
Darcy proposes and is rejected
Elizabeth goes with relatives on vacation to Brighton. Lydia vacations in London
Lydia runs away with Mr. Wickam Darcy apologizes to Elizabeth, finds Lydia
and pays for her marriage. Mr. Bingley returns to Jane and marries her Elizabeth changes her mind about Darcy
and marries him That’s the jist.
The director and screenwriter did not put Mr. and Mrs. Hurst in the movie. Mrs. Hurst is the other Bingley sister who was always with Caroline Bingley. They kind of made Caroline and Mrs. Hurst one in the same, and got rid of Mr. Hurst all together.
If Jane Austen had thought her character not important, she wouldn’t of created them.
Accurate Inaccurate
Man not seen playing a pianoforte
Women trained in arts admirable (Mr. Darcy speaks of this)
Costumes Houses
Mary carrying sheet music to a ball
An Italian song sung in English
The lighting of the rooms. (too bright for candles)
Accurate Inaccurate
Languages Arranged Marriages Marriages for
convenience
Dance couple order What dances should
have been danced to Social equality (the
director tries to portray more than is there)
Many historical accuracies
But also historical inaccuracies
Great movie Well made Would recommend this
as a chick flick Shows what a long way
“love” has come in its importance in our world
Helps current watchers to understand how little power women truly had
