It started with France 1801. The French owned most of America and Napoleon Boneapart was in big pickle with England, owning America made him lose money. And Thomas Jefferson the president of that time had bought the Acers. Thomas Jefferson bought the land.  

Thomas Jefferson owned the Louisiana territory he got a very good bargain. He sold it for 15millon that was a lot of money but the us congress agreed with the deal on 1803. One year later Lewis and Clark left for the Expedition. It took two and a half years
