The Importance of LearningAs a outcome of searching

outward there was a burst of fascination in geography, astronomy, anatomy, trade, and inventing. Humanists believed that it was important to train young peoples characters and bodies as well as their minds. Humanists believed that people could achieve great thing through learning.

Prince Henry's school ofnavigation

The precise location on prince Henry's school of navigation is not known. It is generally agreed to that he sited his headquarters at Sagres and made a settlement on land presented by the crown. The only building still standing and thought to have been around in more or less its current form in Henry's day, is the bleak basic little church within the stronghold. The school of navigation was like a lure to the greatest brains in Europe concerned with the marine sciences. Under Henry's patronage, a community of talented scholars came here to instruct and to study,  and  accumulated and correlated nautical skill as it was brought back by captains of sequential voyages to hitherto uncharted places.

I chose this artifact because I thought it contributed to humanism by showing how navigation and exploration expanded with new technologies.

The importance of the individual

Humanists believed that individuals should be skilled in many different areas. They should develop not just their minds but also their bodies and spirits.

Leonardo da Vinci was an Italian polymath, scientist,

mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, painter, sculptor, architect, botanist, musician, writer and an individual. Leonardo has often been related as the archetype of the Renaissance man, a man whose unquenchable interest was equivalent only by his control of invention. He was an individual he chose what he wanted to do and what made him do it, and he didn’t like women. I chose this artifact because I thought Leonardo da Vinci was an individual along with his paintings and inventions. He contributes to our understanding of humanism by showing how he expressed his way of thinking of the renaissance by painting and sculpting.

Contributing to societyThe invention of the telescope

gave people a better understanding of the solar system.

The invention of the compound microscope in 1590 had allowed people to get a first glimpse to a hidden world they never knew existed.

Improvements in ship building and navigation had resulted in the discovery of 3 new continents previously unknown to europeans

the light microscope: an instrument that fits the human eye, by means of a lens or combinations of lenses, to view magnified images of miniscule objects. It made seeable the captivating feature of worlds within worlds.

Some point about the year 1590, two Dutch spectacle makers, Zaccharias Janssen and his father Hans began experimenting with these lenses.  They put a number of lenses in a tube and made a very essential discovery.  The item near the end of the tube appeared to be greatly expanded , much bigger than any effortless magnifying glass could accomplish by itself!  They had just created the compound microscope (which is a microscope that uses two or more lenses)

I chose this artifact because it made a big difference in technology in humanism. It contributes to our understanding of humanism by showing how technology advanced even in the 1500’s , that’s 509 years ago.

Modeling themselves on the ancient past.The renaissance was

inspired by the ancient cultures of Greece and Rome. The renaissance was soon transformed into an age of experimentation, exploration, and innovation. A movement of religious reform had resulted in the creation of the first protestant faiths.

Understanding of solar system

The invention of the telescope gave people a finer understanding of the solar system. The earliest notable working telescopes appeared in 1608 and is credited to Hans Lippershey.

made the telescope but he didn’t he made one but not the first he made one much better and improved from the Dutch-invented refracting telescope. It was Hans Lippershey who actually invented the telescope in 1608
