I. History of the company and its network

1880 : Creation of the Metz public transport (2 lines crossing in the center of the town)

May 1902 : Inauguration of the electric tram network.

1931 : Launch of 6 Renault buses in addition to the trams.

Inauguration of the Trolleybus network.

1966 : Buses replace Trolleybus

The T.C.R.M company belongs to the agglomeration community of Metz Metropole (CA2M) and the national public transport company TRANSDEV.

Majority of the lines are available from 6:00 until 20:30 (excepted the “Late Line”).

About the interval at the bus stops, it depends of the line and the timetable.

Concerning the timetable, there are 4 periods :

White : Monday to Friday (excepted school holidays and legal holidays) : the interval is short (~5 minute at the main bus stops.

Orange : Saturday and school holidays : the interval is a bit longer, but main bus stops and lines have almost the same interval as in the White period.

Blue : Sunday and legal holidays : long interval, from 40 minutes to 150 minutes. Some lines are not available in Blue period.

Green : Summer holiday : Same interval as in the White period, but not the same timetable and the lines start later the morning (around 7:00 instead 6:00).

Since 2001, new buses put into service received a yellow painting remaining the color of the mirabelle (region of Lorraine is famous for this fruit) and the Jaumont stone (stone used in

the composition of certain buildings in the region).

There is also on several buses, a sentence or a quote painted on the windows which are about the city of Metz, its actuality, its history or its personalities.

Since 2005, there are 7 tickets and 8 cards as transit fares.

The main project : BUSWAY

Also called TCSP project (for Transport en Commun en Site Propre), the Busway project has been launched by the new mayor of Metz, and approved by the CA2M in its PDU (Plan de Déplacement Urbain).

This will be a 16,5 km lenght only bus lane, from North to South-East of the city.

Faster and on-time buses (average speed of 20km/h instead of 10km/h) High frequency (every 3 minutes in the main bus lane) 50 new or rebuilt bus stations, better located, more comfortable and equipped for the RMP. New buses, more comfortable, better driving (optical guidance), with more capacity (25000 persons by day) Related projetcs

To improve and promote public transportation, several projects related to the Busway are planned : Equipped secondary axis : Bus only lanes, priority for the bus at the intersections. Park and Ride located at the edge of the bus lanes

Related projetcs

Better connection between the different transport mode

Regarding current lines, parts of their track and schedules will probably be modified to improve connections with the Busway line.

Other projects

Update the E-Ticketing for a better connection with the departmental and regional transports (Intercity buses, SNCF trains,…).

Continue to make the network accessible to the RMP (bus equipments, bus stop improvements,…).

Increase the “Late Line” by adding new lines and better frequency.

(informal) Create new lines because some cities will no longer be served by intercity buses.

Conclusion

Current network still can be improved

The Busway project is a major part of the network development
