The topic of my questions are about The Great Depression. The Great Depression was a period of time of a great economic downfall during the 1930’s.

Question 1

1. How did The Great Depression affect people in the working class?

First option

Because they had a lot of people working in the factories because that was the only job available during The Great Depression, therefore a lot of pollution was created so it was really affecting the health of people. So a lot of people were dying from the chemicals in the air. So the Great Depression affected the health of people.

Second Option

Because it made people move countries to a place that wasn’t being affected by the Great Depression. Therefore many people had to adapt to a different country. For example, adapt to their language, culture and food.

Third Option

Because many workers were loosing their jobs, so they couldn’t pay back their loans to the banks; therefore they lost their homes and farms. Therefore many people were homeless, so the family didn’t have anyplace to live. Also, it affected their health because many people didn’t have a job they didn’t have a lot of money, so they didn’t have enough money to see a doctor or afford a medicine if they got sick. Another problem was food; many people couldn’t afford food for the family so many hungry people are waiting in lines for government services for a free meal. Malnutrition was also a big problem that affected many people since they didn’t have enough money to have a proper nutrition.

Fourth Option

Because many workers were getting depressed because they didn’t like their working condition. Therefore, they decided to quit their job, therefore many people got depressed because of their job condition. Therefore, The Great Depression affected the people because it made people quit their job.

Question 2

Since The Great Depression didn’t affect the wealthy people, what did they do during the time of The Great Depression?

First option

The wealthy people carried their life as usual. With entertainment venues, involving dance ballrooms, were newspapers had reports of their parties, fashion parades and fetes. They didn’t really care about the people suffering from The Great Depression.

Second Option

The wealthy people sent letters to the people suffering from The Great Depression asking them what they needed or wanted and when the people replied, the wealthy people did everything possible that the people living in The Great Depression asked for.

Third Option

The wealthy people helped the people that were suffering from The Great Depression by giving them a shelter, food and money.

Fourth Option

The wealthy people left their country and went to live in places that weren’t suffering from The Great Depression so that they could live in a place with better conditions.

What was the Great Depression?

First option

The Great Depression was the period of time when a disease was spreading around Europe that nobody had a cure for it during the 1930’s. The disease affected many people, especially children. Therefore, many people were sad, causing a very depressing mood all over Europe.

Second Option

The Great Depression was a period of serious worldwide economic depression, which included huge problems of unemployment, low export prices, struggling farms and depressed business during the 1930s, after the World War 1.

Third Option

The Great Depression was the period of time when the Spanish conquistadors were traveling around the world to discover new lands and they were spreading diseases for the native people in the new land they found. Therefore, many people were dying and the Spanish called it ‘The Great Depression’.

Fourth Option

The Great Depression was the period when the living conditions during the World War 2 for the family and for the people fighting in the War was really bad. The living conditions caused the Great Depression because the families were depressed because they knew that their family member that was fighting in the war could die in any moment. The living condition of the family member fighting in the war also affected the Great Depression because he would be really depressed because he was away from the rest of his family and he knew he could die in any moment. So it was called ‘The Great Depression’ because no matter where you were, in the war or at home with a family member in the war, you would be depressed.

Depression, it is what began the Great Depression.

Question 4

Who was Herbert Hoover?

First option

He was the president of England during the Great Depression. He tried to make sure that England’s economy didn’t crash, but it didn’t work. It crashed their economy really badly anyways.

Second Option

He was the one of the people that had shares in the bank, but when the bank closed down, he left and didn’t pay his loans back to the bank. He wasn’t really affected with the Great Depression because he had a lot of money because he gained his entire dividend and he didn’t waste any of his money when the economy was doing well.

Third Option

He was Australia’s famous president because he helped many people during The Great Depression. The people that didn’t have a home, he found a house for the. And the people that didn’t have food, he gave food for them. He helped around 5 thousand people during The Great Depression, so he is very recognized in Australia.

Fourth Option

He was the American president during the time of the time period of the Great Depression. He tried to make sure that Unites States financial crisis would quickly pass. But the Great Depression lasted for about 10 years and stroked almost every county in the world.

Even though the results came from Germany, Portugal, Brazil and Qatar. It only shows on the poll the results of the percentage of the country results for each question of Brazil and Qatar. I think it’s because you need at least two votes from the country to show the percentage of the country results for each question.

This also shows that people in Brazil know about the topic because they got the correct answer. It shows that in Qatar 69% of people knew about the topic and 32% didn’t. But I wouldn’t say Brazilians knows more about the topic then people living in Qatar because there was only 2 votes from people in brazil and 32 votes from people in Qatar, so it’s not a fair data to compare.

Analyzing results

What does the data tells us?

After I finished the project, I went back to see my results to see what the data showed. The correct answer on my poll got 72% of votes, which shows that many people knew about the topic well. This also shows that the question might of been too obvious and not very complex for the people since many got the correct answer. The other 28% that got the answer wrong might suggest that they weren’t aware of the topic because they were younger or because they don’t learn about this topic in their country. Therefore, because most of the people got the correct answer, in the future I would make the question more complex and involved into the topic.

What surprised you about the results?

It surprised me that 72% of people voted on the correct answer. I thought that many people would get the question wrong because before studying this topic, I wasn’t aware of the answer, so I thought many people wouldn’t be aware of the topic as well. Therefore, I expected the percentage of the correct answer to be lower.

What didn’t surprise you?

It didn’t surprise me that not many people from Portugal, Brazil and Germany would vote on my poll because most of the people don’t speak English. Therefore, they didn’t know what it was talking about, so they couldn’t answer the question. I only got 1 vote from Portugal, 2 votes from Brazil and 1 vote from Germany. This proves that not many people from non- English speaking countries voted on my poll.

What inferences can you make based on you data

results?In conclusion, the majority of voters knew about the topic because most of them got the correct answer. But due to the fact that the correct option was the bigger answer, so it might of been misleading because if someone didn't know the answer the chose the bigger answer as a guess. Therefore I can infer that this was a successful poll but changes and improvements could be made, also the results I gathered were very interesting and unexpected.
