Drawn to Abstraction: Prints from the 1960's & 70's(Organized by the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, Kalamazoo, Michigan)January 22 – March 29 2015The works in this exhibition capture the vibrancy of the emerging abstract movements during this time, including Abstract Expressionism, Minimalism, Op Art, and Pop Art. This exhibition features an extraordinary collection of works on paper by artists widely recognized as giants of 20th-century art: Josef Albers, Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg, Frank Stella, and others.

Seeing Native American: Historic ImpressionsJanuary 15 – March 17, 2015Featuring examples of late 19th- and early 20th-century imagery created by non-Native American artists such as Frederic Remington, Charles M. Russell and John Hauser. These depictions will contrast sharply with those included in the J. Wayne Stark Galleries’ exhibition, Being Native American: Contemporary Expressions.

BRAZOS VALLEY ARTS COUNCILEXHIBITIONS

CHRISTOPHER MANZIONE:The MSC Visual Arts Committee presents Christopher Manzione, an interactive 2-D sculpture and projection artist whose work becomes 3-D when scanned with your smartphone. The exhibition will be in the Reynolds Gallery at Texas A&M University’s Memorial Student Center from January 15 – February 28. For more information, please contact [email protected].

Brazos Valley Art League Juried and Judged ShowCome see the award winning artwork of members of the Brazos Valley Art League at the Texas Gallery at The Arts Center!  Many artists from throughout Central Texas have been invited to participate.  The show will be open January 8th 

through January 31st.

All artists must submit photos of the items that will be sold and a booth shot would be preferred. The booth shot may be a mock-up that you do at home. An exhibition of approximately 100 works by 66 artists that explores how painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, and photography not only responded to the political and social turmoil of the era, but also helped influence its direction. Organized by the Brooklyn Museum in New York, the exhibition highlights the wide-ranging aesthetic approaches used to address the struggle for civil rights.

Opening January 23, 2015Selections from the Changarrito Collection 2012 - 2014The Changarrito Project is an international traveling mobile gallery that provides an alternative method of showcasing artwork for contemporary artists. Mexic-Arte Museum acquired one of the Changarrito carts, and has invited over 20 artists to participate. Works acquired from these residencies will be on display, ranging from tapes, zines, toys, miniature sculpture, paintings, sketches, and other portable works on paper.
