It's time for thePolitical Forum
Here we are, October at last. The PoliticalForum is upon us. The candidates are coming,our tough questions are ready and our votesare in to celebrate your choice for Woman andBusiness of the Year.
Personally, this hasbeen a very excitingprocess. After morethan 20 years of livingin the Keys, I'velearned a tremendousamount about ourcommunity's leaders inpolitics.
From state to countyto village, frommosquito towastewater to fire &emergency services,from state attorneys topublic defenders, it'sbeen incredibly enlightening to learn how theyall play a part in our community's coexistence.
These folks have put themselves in "thearena" and have committed their time andefforts to service.
We are fortunate to have the opportunity totake a closer look at who they really are andwhat they have to offer. Please join us at 5:30p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 at the Hilton to learnmore about the candidates and where theystand on the issues.
During the evening, Gina Boilini (our belovedpast president) will be announcing the winnersof our BPW Woman & Business of the Year for2016. Thank you to the members who took thetime to vote. Gina has informed me that it wasa close race.
All of the woman of BPW who continue toshow up and empower their fellow membersare deserving of recognition and should becelebrated. Without these connections andfellowship, I wouldn't even be writing you amessage like this. Being a part of BPW can betransformative if you let it!
Looking forward to sharing the evening with allof you as we gain knowledge and educationbefore Election Day Nov. 8. And as wecelebrate Women in Business!

Suzi YoungbergI moved to the Keys 19 years ago with my husband,Scott, from Chattanooga, Tenn., and until recently, Ilived the life of the traveling salesperson -- cominghome to the Keys on weekends.
A few years ago, Scott went through cancer treatment.Thankfully, it was successful and he is doing well. But going through that experience withhim made me realize more than ever how precious and short life is. It made me not want towaste more of my life doing something that didn’t make me happy.
Last fall, I started my own company, Suzi’s Promoplans. Suzi’s Promoplans is a franchiseof my father-in-law’s business, Promoplans, in Tennessee. We provide promotionalproducts…basically any type of logo’d products including ink pens, mugs, koozies, caps, T-shirts, embroidered polos, fishing shirts, banners, tents and more.
I also work with Florida Keys Media in radio advertising. My goal is to help localbusinesses be more successful through strategic marketing and advertising.
I’m co-owner and writer for Humans of the Keys. I love writing about Keys' residents, andhave met so many great people! Writing is one of my passions; I also have a blog, Suzi’sWorld, and I write songs with Scott.
Since I stopped traveling for a living, I have been able to get involved in so many thingsthat weren’t possible for years. Joining the Upper Keys BPW was the first thing I did lastSeptember when I made the decision to start my own business.
It is such an incredible group of supportive women, and I am honored to be in the spotlightthis month!

Dorothy Harden, Dorothy J. Harden, Attorney at Law, hasbeen selected as one of the Top Ten Business Women of theYear by the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA).
Dorothy, who also owns Go-Get-'Em-Girls! a woman'sempowerment company, washonored for "achieving excellence
in career, education and community involvement," theorganization stated.
Dorothy Harden will give a speech Oct. 29 at the NationalWomen's Leadership Conference in Chattanooga, Tenn., abouther background, her success story in navigating the multi-generational world, and offer success lessons that can be putinto place in the workplace and community.
