FILMS IN SEPTEMBER
BUXTON CINEMAPAVILION ARTS CENTRE What not to miss...
Dear Film Fans
It may be back to school me for the kids, but that doesn't mean the entertainment at the cinema stops, with some big-screen blockbusters and live theatre screenings joining us this month.
If you're one of the many film fans who just can't get enough of the Fast and Furious franchise then the Hobbs & Shaw spin-off will be just up your street. Centred on the main characters Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson), and Shaw (Jason Statham) they find themselves forced to form an uneasy alliance, when a genecally enhanced villain (Idris Elba) threatens the world with a deadly virus.
Possibly one of the most ancipated and talked about films this year has to be Quenn Taranno's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The ninth film from the notorious director is a tribute to the twilight years of Hollywood's Golden Age in 1969 LA. Faded television actor (Leonard DiCaprio) and his stunt double (Brad Pi) find themselves in the middle of an industry which is changing so fast they don't even recognise half the key players. Featuring a stellar cast, including Margot Robbie, Emilie Hirsch, Dakota Fanning, Damian Lewis and Al Pacino, to name just a few.
One of Britain's most iconic arst's relaonships with his mother is depicted in Mrs Lowry & Son. The film follows L.S.Lowry (Timothy Spall) from the beginning of his career as his over-bearing mother Elizabeth (Vanessa Redgrave) tries to dissuade him from pursuing his arsc dreams.
We have two encore screenings from the Naonal Theatre this month with the award-winning Fleabag and One Man, Two Guvnors. The hilarious one-woman show Fleabag inspired the BBC hit TV series. Wrien and performed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge this show has played to sold-out audiences in New York and London. Featuring a Tony Award-winning performance from James Corden as Francis Henshall, One Man, Two Guvnors is set in 1963 Brighton. Francis, an out of work skiffle player, finds himself employed by two guvnors he must keep apart. This producon has earned rave reviews with from Guardian describing it as 'One of the funniest producons in the Naonal's history'.

The Brish comedy Blinded by the Light tells the story of teenager Javed, who is surrounded by the racial and economic turmoil of the late 80s. Javed finds an escape from his oppressive hometown and controlling father by listening to 'The Boss' Bruce Springsteen. Javed sees parallels between his working-class life and Springsteen's powerful lyrics. Blinded by the Light is inspired by the life of Journalist Sarfraz Manzoor and his memoir Greengs From Bury Park.
Our young cinema-goers, can enjoy a new animated tale with UglyDolls. The musical comedy shows a hidden universe of dolls which wait to be chosen for a child. However, different dolls find themselves dropped off into the remote town of Uglville. Featuring the voices of Kelly Clarkson, Janelle Monae and Pitbull, the free-spirited UglyDolls discover they don't have to be perfect, as being true to themselves is more important.

In 1960 a young Canadian poet visited the Greek island of Hydra and fell hopelessly in love with Marianne Ihlen. Hydra at that time was a haven for the bohemian counterculture that had emerged in Europe and the US. Although this isn’t a new story, Nick Broomfield had a personal interest here – he too had known and loved Marianne. This is a documentary about Marianne but more about Leonard Cohen and those heady days in the 60s. It is also a story about a love that endured.
Based on the best-selling novel by Garth Stein, this heartfelt tale is narrated by a witty and philosophical dog named Enzo. Through his bond with his owner, Denny, an aspiring Formula One race car driver, Enzo has gained tremendous insight into the human condition and understands that the techniques needed on the racetrack can also be used to navigate the journey of life. The film follows Denny and his wife, Eve, their young daughter Zoe, and ultimately, his true best friend, Enzo.
Loyal agent Hobbs and lawless outcast Shaw first faced off in Fast & Furious 7, but the two sworn enemies will have to partner up to bring down the only guy who might be badder than themselves. Hobbs & Shaw blasts open a new door in the Fast universe as it hurtles action across the globe, from Los Angeles to London and from the toxic wasteland of Chernobyl to the lush beauty of Samoa.
Marla is forced to abandon her carefully structured life to embark on an epic journey to find her younger brother Charlie who has disappeared into the vast and wondrous animated world of Playmobil toys.

Some American hippies find their way there and a drug trade is established. Over the next 20 years there are riches to be won but much is lost.
Having spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents, nothing could prepare Dora for her most dangerous adventure ever – high school. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego, a mysterious jungle inhabitant, and a rag tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost city of gold.
Rocketman is an epic musical fantasy about the uncensored human story of Sir Elton John's breakthrough years. Feel free to don those feathers and sequins and sing along to all of Elton’s hits at Buxton Cinema.

Cleverly scripted by Frank Cottrell-Boyce, Scrabble-obsessed Alan is troubled by the notion that his long lost son left after an argument about whether ‘zo’ was an allowable word under the rules of the game. How does Alan negotiate relationships with his other children, his wife and Scrabble? Witty, entertaining and well acted.

Unconventionality rules in UglyDolls, the new animated family adventure based on the beloved toy brand. In the adorably different town of Uglyville, the free-spirited Moxy and her UglyDolls friends confront what it means to be different, struggle with their desire to be loved, and ultimately discover that you don't have to be perfect to be amazing because who you truly are is what matters most.

See the hilarious, award-winning, show that inspired the BBC’s hit TV series Fleabag. Written and performed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge and directed by Vicky Jones, Fleabag is a rip-roaring look at some sort of woman living her sort of life. Fleabag may seem oversexed, emotionally, unfiltered and self-obsessed, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. With family and friendships under strain and a guinea pig café struggling to keep afloat, Fleabag suddenly finds herself with nothing to lose.
