If you endure hemorrhoids, you know how uncomfortable they can be—not only causing you physical discomfort but also the embarrassment of

having to discuss them, even with your doctor. You’ve likely tried over-the-counter treatments and maybe you’ve achieved temporary relief. Perhaps surgical options have seemed like a worse alternative than simply learning to live with the pain.

Dr. Harry Sarles, Jr., wants you to know that relief is just a phone call away. “Many people with hemorrhoids suffer in silence,” he said. “They may talk to their primary care physicians or try local remedies, but most aren’t all that effective. Until now, surgery seemed so drastic, many were reluctant to even consider it.”

A dual-board-certi f ied ( internal medicine and gastroenterology) and experienced physician, Dr. Sarles was also the first gastroenterologist in Texas trained in the CRH O’Regan System for effective, safe and easy hemorrhoid removal. A patient finds relief after years of suffering

For K.S., her first hemorrhoids appeared at the age of 28 following the birth of her child. Throughout her 30s they would “come and go,” but when she reached her mid-40s, “They got really bad,” she said. “The most minimal activity—just lifting a suitcase—would provoke them. It got to the point where I would sit in a bathtub three to four times a day just to get some relief.” The pain escalated to “feeling like a sharp knife was inside me.” When she heard about the O’Regan system, she was eager to try it. Four years ago she had three treatments and experienced immediate relief. “I was surprised at how quick it was. I tell my friends it was easier than a PAP smear—really no pain at all. I feel fabulous. I’m able to golf and exercise again. It truly saved my life.”

People who suffer with hemorrhoids might have a hereditary link or experience them after childbirth or from constipation or heavy lifting. The causes may vary but the O’Regan banding technique can help nearly the entire population of internal hemorrhoid sufferers. Fortunately for people in our area, Dr. Sarles not only offers the procedure but is one of the pioneers of the technique and currently trains other physicians.

“It’s immensely gratifying to help so many people,” he said. “Every day I hear from patients

who can’t believe how easy it is to get relief. It’s incredibly effective and can prevent an external hemorrhoid from forming or returning. And all grades of hemorrhoids—from one to four—can be treated with this technique. People are also relieved to know that the procedure requires no preparation—no fasting, laxatives or enemas.”

Dr. Sarles said that, on average, patients will require about three treatments (which typically take less than a minute each) and should follow a low-fat, high-fiber diet. Some age-appropriate patients will also be encouraged to have colon cancer screening done at a later time.

With a 94 to 99 percent success rate reported, the CRH O’Regan System has become the “gold standard” for hemorrhoid removal. “We’ve seen many patients who have failed other hemorrhoid management attempts have satisfying success,” Dr. Sarles said. “It’s very safe, simple, effective and affordable.”
