Burn Boot CampAn Inclusive and Non-Competitive Fitness Franchise for Successful Transformations

Burn Boot Camp, a popular fitness franchise based in North Carolina, is sweeping the nation with 160 open locations and is expanding rapidly. This little gem is already open in Lakeway from October 2016 and is located at 1603 Ranch Rd 620 N #100, Lakeway TX 78734. They always have a 14 day complimentary trial for new members to try out. You can register your 14 day trial at www.burnbootcamp.com/lakeway-tx

Burn Boot Camp has a history of success, with hundreds of transformation stories, many of which grace the walls of each location. From young moms to grandmothers, women have lost weight, gained confidence and reversed troubling health problems. Lakeway location has a number of their own transformations. Transformations vary from weight loss, body toning, reducing body fat percentage, able to wear a bikini, increased confidence or becoming strong physically and mentally.

As a fitness studio, Burn Boot Camp offers 45-minute circuit-style classes (“camps”) designed to help members meet their fitness goals in an inclusive and non-competitive community. Since Burn is primarily a women-focused gym, but men are also welcome and a number of men had huge transformations working out at Burn. The 5.00 am class and evening classes are co-ed. The rest of the classes 5.30, 6.30, 7.30, 8.30, 9.30 am classes are women only. Many of the members are busy moms, juggling multiple schedules and demands. That’s why Burn keeps it simple—one workout, offered eight times throughout the day, with no need to pre-register, so members can simply drop by whenever it is convenient and know they will get a solid workout.

Burn offers complimentary Child watch where members drop their kids in the kids area who will be looked after by child care staff while they workout. Trainers at Burn are highly qualified and they provide personal training in a group setting. Members can meet with trainers one on one for focus meetings to discuss nutrition, goals, progress etc. This also helps trainers to personalize the advice to members to make sure that they reach their goals.

These camps are designed to train the beginner as well as the off-season youth athlete and combines agility, conditioning, and strength training in an age-appropriate manner. Different fitness levels work out at Burn and trainers will make sure everyone is challenged during the workouts.

Boasting a 3000 sq. ft. floating floor that lessen the impact to joints and to help prevent injury, the huge 7500 sq. ft. facility also offers a custom pull up system, bosu balls, slam balls, medicine balls, kettlebells, dumbbells, equalizers, TRX, and battle ropes, among other tools. There are no machines at burn as we believe that your body is a machine. Most of the workouts use body weight and other small equipment. Lakeway facility provides showers and lockers. Currently Lakeway location offers camps at 5.00, 5.30, 6.30, 7.30, 8.30, 9.30 am and 4.30, 5.45 pm from Mon to Fri. It also has 8.00 and 9.00 am camps on Sat. All camps from 7.30 am have FREE childcare available.

Sing Along's Christmas Show - December 2

What better way to get into the holiday spirit than with a Christmas music show benefiting low-income young members of our community? Lakeway Sing Along offers that opportunity on Sunday, December 2nd, when they present their 18th annual family Christmas Show. Show Producer Gigi McKeever says it best:“As a girl on a West Texas night, I often gazed up and recited ‘Star light, star bright, I wish I may, I wish I might,’ and we hear those hopes and dreams of peace and love in our theme song, ‘I See A Star!’

Our Sing Along chorus is proud and happy to present this Christmas Show which benefits LTlov’s Green Santa Program and the

many under-served or underprivileged children in our community who share these same hopes of peace and love at Christmas and into the New Year.”

The Sing Alongs comprise a group of 90+ music lovers from the Lakeway area who have been performing together for local audiences since 1999. This year’s program, “I See a Star!”, produced by Gigi McKeever and directed by Susan Oaks, combines old favorites, new music, and several fun Christmas songs guaranteed to entertain. Yes, there will be ample opportunity for audience participation – and a really good chance Santa and Mrs. Claus will drop in!

Back-to-back performances will be held at 2 PM and 4:30 PM at the Lakeway Activity Center, 105 Cross Creek, on Sunday, December 2nd. No need for reservations, but come early to get a good seat. Price of admission is an unwrapped gift for a child up to age 17. These gifts will be distributed to qualified area families at Christmastime by Green Santa Program volunteers.

If you are unable to attend the show, you may drop off your gift in the donation box at the Activity Center anytime before the show. There will also be a donation jar at the door….and cookies after the show!

For more information, contact the Lakeway Activity Center at 512-261-1010.

Take a Taco Card for Donating Blood at Lakeway DriveWhat would make you feel better: donating blood to help a

neighbor or starting your day with a delicious breakfast taco? Why choose, when you can do both.

The next Lakeway Community Blood Drive will be from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 17 at the Lakeway Activity Center, 105 Cross Creek.

Blood collected at this drive is dedicated for use in the 10-county area surrounding Travis County. All those who come out to donate will know that they are helping others – maybe saving a life – and getting a Hat Creek Burger Company reward in the process.

The Hat Creek restaurant in Lakeway has provided coupons - up to four for each donor attending the next Lakeway Community Blood Drive. Each card may be redeemed for one free breakfast taco.

Prospective donors with appointments are given priority during the donation process. Walk-ins are always welcome, too.

To schedule an appointment or for more information, contact the coordinators at [email protected] or visit www.weareblood.org and search for Group Code A197.

The We Are Blood website also includes useful information

regarding eligibility and answers to other frequently asked questions.

To be eligible, donors need to be in good health, at least 17 years old and weigh 115 pounds or more for whole blood donations. Photo identification is required. Organizers recommend that donors eat a good meal and drink plenty of liquids before donating.

Around LakewayNews From Lakeway MUD (LMUD)

Important Conservation AnnouncementLakeway MUD i s constantly striving to improve our conservation

programs to better preserve our precious water resources. There is one area, however, that needs improvement. The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) in their Best; Management Practices Water Conservation Pricing guidelines sets out specific benchmarks for block rates. In an effort to more closely comply with the TWDB's Best Management Practices, The LMUD Board of Directors has revised the pricing schedule for those customers as follows:

Usage Previous New0-l5K Gal $2.50 $2.5015-30K Gal $3.25 $3.2530-50K Gal $3.75 $4.0650-8OK Gal $4.30 $5.0880-lOOK Gal $5.00 $6.35Over lOOK Gal $5.75 $7.94These new prices for the upper tier users will be effective Oct 1,

2018 and will first appear on the LMUD bills as of Dec 1, 2018. Those customers using less than 30K gallons per billing cycle will see no change in their water rates. Thank you in advance for your understanding and assistance in this important conservation initiative approved by your Board of Directors.

Also, the LMUD tax rate for 2018 was reduced from 0.1258 to 0.1158 per $100 evaluation.

Neighborhood Sewer Install Project UpdateAs many of you may remember, LMUD is in the process of

providing the option of hooking up to a public sewer system to the home owners in the first 17 sections of Lakeway, the area designed with the Old Lakeway street signs. We have started to call this our “Out of District Wastewater Project” since these homes are, and will remain to be, “Out of District” LMUD customers, meaning they do not pay property taxes to LMUD like our “In District” customers. Because of this fact, this has been a tough project for us to decide how to fund, but we knew it was one that needed to be done. The majority of these homes are still on septic tanks, some as old as Lakeway’s origination in the late 60s/early 70s and are failing, causing environmental concerns with these homes being so close to the lake, not to mention large bills for the homeowners facing tens of thousands of dollars for a new septic tank that meets LCRA’s new regulations. For an outline of the plan, please visit our website. As of the May 9th LMUD board meeting, the plan to move forward with installation of the sewer system to Phase 1 has been approved. This will include construction of the majority of the required infrastructure needed to support the homes on this collection system as well as installation of the main wastewater collection lines to the residential properties along the Live Oak golf course, allowing approx. 265 homes to be connected to the new system. We will be holding public meetings on this plan in the near future. In the meantime, if you have any questions, feel free to give us a call.

LMUD Launches New WebsiteIt is with great pleasure that we are announcing the launch of

our new website! It was a long overdue project that we decided to make a priority once we rebranded ourselves with the new LMUD logo featuring the bright red “LMUD” on the golf ball water tower. Users will see that the site is much more functional and aesthetically appealing to be on par with today’s standard in website development. In addition, we developed a separate mobile version of the site for enhanced accessibility. We tried to make our site as user friendly as possible by placing quick and easy access points to essential information and resources, such as water schedules, board meeting agendas, and the online payment portal. We also added a staff page with headshots of each of our team members so you can feel confident with the people who show up at your home as well as get the contact information for specific department heads so we can get your questions answered faster. As always, our website will be updated regularly with meeting minutes and videos from each of our monthly board meeting, which are held the second Wednesday of the month at 9:30am at our office on Lohman’s and are open to the public. We will also regularly be adding content such as water conservation tips which is pertinent to the area because we want our community to feel comfortable coming to us with any of their potable water or wastewater questions and concerns. Please take a look at the new site and send us your feedback!

A big THANK YOU to the LMUD board of Directors and all the volunteer committee members who make this possible.

Please feel free to call us with any questions at 512/261-6222, email us at [email protected]. You can also visit our website at www.LakewayMUD.org for further information.

Volksmarch in Canyonlands of Lakeway - November 17

Friends of the Parks of Lakeway (FOP) is hosting a free volksmarch in the Canyonlands Greenbelt in Lakeway on Saturday, November 17th from 12-4:30 PM. Volksmarch, or peoples walk, is a non-timed, non-competitive walk. The concept originated in Germany in the early 1960’s and emphasizes exercise, enjoyment of the outdoors and a friendly social atmosphere rather

than athletic competition. FOP is hosting the event to encourage Lakeway and Lake Travis area residents to become more familiar with the primitive trails in the Canyonlands.

There will be two courses, a 3-mile walk within Canyonlands that is easy to moderately difficult and a 6-mile roundtrip to the top of “Mount Lakeway,” the highest point in Lakeway. The hike to the top is moderately difficult and consists of an uphill climb on a primitive trail for the last three quarters of a mile.

Volksmarch, registration, start and finish point will be in the small field west of the Lakeway Swim Center at the intersection of Highlands Boulevard and Trophy Drive. Parking is available in the Lakeway Swim Center parking lot. Start your walk at any time. If you wish to do three miles, allow at least an hour. If you wish to walk to the top of Mount Lakeway, allow at least three hours for the 6-mile round trip. Walk on your own, or FOP will offer guided walks up Mount Lakeway at 12:30 and 1 PM. There is no stroller access for either walk, and the walk to Mount Lakeway is not recommended for children younger than six. The oldest walker to summit Mount Lakeway to date is 90 years old.

Wear hiking or comfortable walking shoes, bring sufficient water, walking or trekking sticks as desired, and if you like, wear your lederhosen. Dogs are welcome. Come with family and friends, walk leisurely through Canyonlands, explore the primitive trails, hear bubbling streams, or climb Mount Lakeway to see Lake Travis and maybe some fall color.

A volksmarch tradition is to have refreshments after the walk. FOP will provide a small snack at the finish. For adults 21 and older a free beer from Infamous Brewing Company will be available. A small participation recognition also will be given to all walkers at the finish. This is not an official American Volksport Association (AVA) event, so no stamps for IVV credit will be available.

For further information or questions contact Dar Moneyhon at [email protected] or 512 261-3691. FOP is a 501(c)(3) volunteer organization focused on promoting, maintaining and improving the parks and green spaces in Lakeway.

Lakeway Painters Art Exhibit and SaleWHO: Lakeway Painters (A group of 50 artists who meet

weekly at the Lakeway Activity Center to create art)WHAT: Annual Art Exhibition and SaleWHERE: The Hills Country Club, 26 Club Estates Parkway Austin, TX 78738WHEN: Sunday November 18, 11-3PM

The Lakeway Painters invite you to their annual art exhibition and sale on Sunday, November 18 from 11- 3PM at The Hills Country Club located in The Village of The Hills. More than 25 local artists will display and offer for sale paintings in watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastels and pen/ink. The eclectic group started meeting at the Lakeway Activity Center in 2002 and has grown to more than 50 members. “We are an art family that gathers each Wednesday to share, critique, and admire. This event allows us to show the community what we do,” says show organizer Libby Smith of Lakeway.

This year’s event honors a beloved member of the Lakeway Painters who passed away suddenly in May, Barry Eigen. After retiring from the world of business, the Cedar Park resident returned to his early love of painting. He attended the group’s weekly painting sessions without fail.

“I am so please to have Barry’s memory and artwork honored by his Lakeway Painters’ family. This group is so much more than a community of artists; it is a collective of dear friends who embraced him from day one. Barry thrived on their energy, creativity, but mostly their friendship. Wednesdays were always special,” says his widow Chris Eigen. Barry Eigen was intensely involved in the Austin art scene, and loved to paint with acrylics, especially landscapes and street scenes.

Fellow artist Mary Lou Yancey of Lakeway sat next to Eigen every week, “He lit up the room, had a kindness about him that everyone who knew him felt. We will miss our friend and fellow painter.”

Admission to the November 18th show is free.

Lakeway/ Lake Travis Rotary Club Changes Children’s lives with Help from the Steel Magnolia Shop

During the last fifty years medicine has made advances that would have not been possible before the advent of technology. Local Rotarians have experienced this first hand as they collaborate with Baylor College of Medicine and Steel Magnolias, a local retailer, to address the need for inexpensive prosthetic limbs for children.

In 2014 local Rotarians were in Tanzania to collaborate with a Tanzania Rotary Club on the drilling of a clean water well. While there, the group visited the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center. After seeing rooms full of crippled children waiting for help that seldom came, the Rotarians from Lakeway decided there had to be better way. Returning home the club established the 3 D Limb project.

There is a pressing need for artificial limbs through the world! Currently limbs made in the conventional way are expensive. They may take weeks to develop. By working with Trifusion materials development specialist and Baylor College of Medicine the local Rotary Club has been instrumental in changing that! Today, an artificial socket for a prothesis can be printed in as few as four hours. The 3 D printed socket may cost as little as $100 compared to several hunded dollars for a conventional socket and are made on the same day the child is seen.

Clubs in countries such as Sri Lanka, Indian and South America saw a prototype of the 3 D Printed socket at the Rotary International convention in spring of 2018 and are exploring ways to join the Rotary Club’s efforts. Another Rotary Club in Pennsylvania is working with the Shriners Hospital to provide limbs for children from Tanzania. The club covers costs associated wth the hospital stay while Shriners Hospital provides medical care without charge. Rotarians all over the world are hoping to get involved with amazing project.

All of this work comes with a cost! The local Rotary club has covered the cost of travel to Tanzania for club members, paid for the room and board of the family staying with the child and has covered the cost of surgery needed in order to fit a child with an artificial limb. Steel Magnolia, a charming shop with an “old world” flavor has stepped up to assist Lakeway/Lake Travis Rotary Club in their efforts to provide help for children with missing limbs. During the month of December the shop will donate 10% of its profit to the Rotary 3 D printed limb project. As residents of Lakeway and the surrounding area shop for Christmas gifts or other special occasion items, everyone is encouraged to stop by and take a look at what shopping with a purpose can mean to a crippled child.
