The discipline focuses on the management of people at work and on the relationships between employees and their managers. HRM is based on the premise that people are an organisation’s most valued asset, and effective and responsible HR practices provide a foundation for any organisation’s strategic success. The Human Resource Management major deals with issues such as employee engagement, performance management, employment relations, learning and development, organisational change, health and safety, international HRM and organisational behaviour. Both conceptual knowledge and workplace practices are emphasised throughout the courses. Students with above average grades in their Human Resource Management required and option courses are invited to join the HRM Honours Program, requiring an additional year of study.
