Recommended audience: Individuals responsible for leading complex, cross-
functional, CPI projects/events, teaching Yellow and Green Belts and mentoring
Green Belts on CPI project teams.
Prerequisite: Advanced Green Belt or ASQ BOK GB
Class size: 7-21
Overview: The two-week Black Belt course is designed to provide practitioners

diagrams to visualize processes, the effects of Measurement System variation,
Standard Work, Rapid Improvement Events (RIE), Waste, Flow and Pull. Each
of these techniques are discussed relative to transactional and manufacturing
processes and provide the students with a basic level of knowledge as to how
they can be used to solve cycle time, defect and rework process issues.

13. 5S Workshop
Duration: 4 hours
Recommended audience: This course is designed for all levels of the organization that need to know what the 5Ss are, how they work and how they can implement and then sustain them. Prerequisite: None Class size: 30
Overview: When you’re used to the way things are done, it’s harder to see the
flaws. 5S is a five-step organizational system that will help remove downtime
and defects from your processes. 5S creates effective workplace organization
and standardized procedures to improve safety, quality, productivity, and
employee attitudes. The 5Ss of Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize and
Sustain walks an organization, department or shop through a problem solving
methodology that will have a positive impact on all the key processes and
products produced in that organization.
This training course uses both lecture and simulations to ensure that the students
are prepared to begin a 5S journey in their work spaces. Each student will be
given standardized tools and templates for measuring and grading their progress
towards higher 5S scores resulting in higher efficiency and productivity.
