INFORMATION GUIDE 2015/16

Page 2: Business Certificates - Information Guide

Thank you for your interest in a Mount Royal business certificate.

This guide outlines the curriculum for each certificate. Once you are accepted, you will be given further information on how to register in your chosen courses.

BUsINEss CERTIFICATEsMount Royal Business Administration certificates are designed for people who have a foundation credential and who wish to specialize in a new area. Each certificate is 8 courses – some are required, and some chosen from a list of approved options. In most instances, students pursue the certificates on a part-time basis while working.

Students must demonstrate that the proper prerequisites are in place before moving on to more senior coursework. If you think you have met a prerequisite based on previously completed course work, you need to ensure your prior courses have been given the specific transfer equivalency stated as a prerequisite. If your prior coursework is currently recognized as unspecified credit (e.g., UNSP 2XXX or ACCT 2XXX), you will not be able to take the higher level course. Check your transfer equivalenices to see how your previous coursework has been articulated to the Business Administration Certificate. To meet prerequisites for higher level courses, we require that your previous course work be evaluated for specific equivalency. You need to submit your course outline(s) (not just the course description), following the process and deadlines outlined here. This can be a lengthy process.

If you intend to be a full-time student, please review your equivalencies and prerequisites to ensure you have enough courses to choose from to attend full-time. To be a full-time student you must be in at least three courses (nine credits) to a maximum of five courses (15 credits). As higher level courses require prerequisite courses, you need to ensure you have the prerequisite courses as you plan your semesters.

You can register only in classes for the Fall semester at this time. The schedule of classes for the Winter semesterwill be available the beginning of October, and you can register for your second semester towards the end of October. This is always a good time to check in with your academic advisor. It’s always best to register as soon as possible, as some courses fill quickly.

COURsE sELECTIONThe curriculum for each of the certificates is outlined below. Find more detailed course descriptions, including prerequisites, in the Mount Royal Academic Calendar.
