Kindy Picnic Day - Wednesday 16 November Next Wednesday we will complete our Kindy Orientation pro- gram with a casual picnic day at Manly Dam. Ms Panetta and I will meet with new parents down at the dam for a casual get- together and allow our new students to have some playtime to meet their new friends and classmates. We hope you all can join us from 10.00am – 12.00pm. Look for the Manly Vale Public School banner at the dam. If raining, the day will be cancelled. Good Luck Katie Next week Katie Gillings a year 6 student is off to Wagga Wagga in the Arts Alive Combined School Band to perform. Katie is a talented trumpet player and has represented the school on many occasions. Congratulations Katie and enjoy your time away next week. P&C AGM Last Tuesday night we had our Annual General meeting of the P&C. The meeting was well attended by parents and was a great opportunity to thank our outgoing committee and wel- come in the new. A special farewell was given to Kylie Free- man as she leaves the school this year. Kylie has been a vol- unteer for many years in the uniform shop, canteen, Café Owl, and as a carnival official. She has held many offices in the P&C including treasurer and secretary and has been a positive and proactive supporter of all school events and fund- raising activities. She currently collects and organises the Scholastic Book Club and is the chief photographer at school events. Kylie will be a great loss to Manly Vale Public School. We thank her for all her work and wish her sons, Campbell and Tom, all the best in their new schools. Stew Davies also stepped down from the president role after 3 years of service. Stew has a passion for supporting the stu- dents and teachers at Manly Vale Public School. In his role as P&C president he has always been there to volunteer at every fundraiser and is the chief cook at every barbecue, and at Café Owl on Friday mornings. Stew has made an ongoing commitment to attend every PRG meeting to represent the community during the consultation process for the new school development. Stew will remain on the P&C next year in the role as vice president. Thank you to Helen Gay for all her volunteer work in the uni- form shop which can take up to 3 days a week of her time and 77 Sunshine Street, Manly Vale T: 9907 9672 F: 9907 0890 E: [email protected] Web: www.manlyvale-p.schools.nsw.edu.au Bush Telegraph 10 November 2016, Term 4, Week 5 Disco Tonight is the night of our end of year disco and there is a lot of excitement amongst the children as they decide what to wear to the “Heroes and Villains of Christmas” themed even- ing. Thank you to Mrs McDonald for organising the lessons and to the year 2 teach- ers and Pete for attending each day. Debating - Tuesday 15 November Good luck to our year 6 debating team next week as they compete against Allambie Heights in a friendly debate held in our school hall Tuesday 15 November. Results of these de- bates will be published next week. Thank you to Mrs Fraser for organising the debate and for her preparation and teach- ing of the team with help from Miss Caruso. Remembrance Day - 11/11/2016 - 11.00am This Friday our senior students will walk down to Manly Dam for the Remembrance Day service. Katia Bjorkmann our school captain will make a speech and the children of Manly Vale will pause to remember the tremendous sacrifice men and women made during wartime past and present. Remem- brance Day marks the day in which the guns of the Western Front ceased after 4 years of continuous warfare during World War 1. This year Katia will acknowledge and remem- ber the commitment of the Australian forces during the battle of the Coral Sea where the Japanese decided to attack Port Moresby via the Kokoda Track. This is always a very moving service and all members of the community are invited to at- tend. Our K-4 students will have a special service back at school. If raining, the service will be conducted at Manly Vale Public School’s hall. PRINCIPALS REPORT:

for her support of fundraising this year. Thank you to Lee Mer-edith for her work with fundraising this year and Mel Corner for her role as secretary. The P&C committee for 2017 will be: President - Jenny Atkinson Vice President - Stewart Davies and Philip Daffy Treasurer - Tony Sherlock Secretary - Mel Corner We look forward to working with the new committee in 2017. Maths Challenge Camp Year 5 We sent four year 5 boys to the Northern Beaches & Pen-ninsula Beaches Schools Maths Challenge Camp this week. The boys were selected after achieving the highest scores in their maths problem solving enrich-e-matics tests. All four boys had a fabulous time at camp and enjoyed the challenge of working with like-minded mathematicians. Selective High Applications The Selective High School Applications close Monday 14 No-vember 2016. If you have not notified the school of your inten-tion to apply, please do so by Friday 11 November and apply online by Monday. Canteen Coordinator Wanted! We still require a canteen coordinator for 2017. Sarah will still be in the canteen and leading the operations but we do re-quire someone to take over the rostering, run the meetings and ensure the canteen continues to comply with government regulations. Although there is much debate about sugar and items for sale at the canteen we still struggle to find someone to lead this committee. Sarah does an amazing job as do our volunteers to open 4 days a week. We have been without a coordinator the whole year and policies need to be updated and regulated. This role is an administrative role and can be done at night or mornings. If you are interested please contact Sarah in the canteen or myself through the school office. Demountable arrives This Friday 11 November we will receive a new demountable at Manly Vale Public School. This is the first of 2 demounta-bles to come in preparation for next year. The second de-mountable will go where the 2 sheds are currently located. Tina Lee Principal

EAGLE TAG Last Thursday our 4 eagle tag teams competed in the Pittwater PSSA Gala day at Lionel Watts Re-serve. Our junior boys and senior boys were ac-companied by Mrs Ward and Ms Cash took the jun-ior and senior girls. The NRL did an efficient job organising the day. Plenty of parents were support-ing along the sidelines and assisted with transport on the day. All teams gave it their all and gained valuable game experience. The junior boys were successful in making the grand final and eventually came run-ners up. They have progressed through to the next level of gala day competition. Congratulations! Well done to all teams—it was rewarding and com-petitive football and lots of fun was had! Lisa Cash and Mel Ward

CHOIR NEWS Our school choir has been very busy this year. With a great mix of Year 3 to 6 students, both boys and girls, students have been learning a range of two part har-mony songs in a range of musical genres. We can’t wait to perform some of our new songs at the Cele-bration of Learning assembly in December.

MANLY VALE OSHC CENTRE M: 0430 369 288 E: [email protected] Over the past two weeks we have been getting the children involved with our Try for 5 challenge as part National Nutrition Week. We had a cook off challenge and got the children making some fruit and vegetable costumes. It has been a fun two weeks of encouraging healthy eating creative thinking which has lead us into Australian Food Safety Week and talking about how to prepare and eat food in a safe and healthy way. This term we have bounced straight back into our Health and Wellbeing sports programs with Basketball on Wednesday and Soccer on Tuesday. It’s great to see the children being active and enjoying the out-doors as we head into warmer weather.

Making our own food pyramid! Ready for a cook off! Ready for some soccer!
