One of the tenants of living a grateful and generous lifestyle is giving without expecting anything in return. It is important that we not only grow, nurture and share our gifts; but that we also teach our children and encourage others to do the same. This is the communal aspect of our Catholic faith. We are the “Body of Christ”. We are called to be dependent on each other and not live in isolation.

This Sunday, we continue to make our way through the Gospel of Mark. We hear the story where Jesus overcomes the death of Jairus’s daughter and the ailment of the woman with a hemorrhage. We must keep before our eyes daily that Christ is life, no matter the situation. In to-day’s gospel, Jesus gives us two examples of new life in Christ, prefiguring his victory over the death of any separation from God. This past Thursday, June 24, we celebrated the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. This solemnity dating from the fourth century is celebrated, to this day, in the Eastern and Western Churches.

If you know a bit about church history, in 1054 AD, there was a break in communion between the Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church because of a cumulation of theological and parti-san differences which developed during the pre-ceding centuries between Eastern and Western Christianity. The Solemnity of the Nativity of John the Baptist came to be celebrated with scrip-tural roots found in Luke, Chapter 1:36, six months before the Lord’s birth. St. Augustine notes in his writings reflecting in John 3:30 that on this June date (near the summer solstice) the birth of John the Baptist, daylight begins to grow short-er. Whereas after Jesus’ birth in December, it begins to increase. Jesus’ cousin, John the Baptist, called from birth by the Lord and maturing throughout his life in the Spirit; John is the final prophet heralding the Advent of the Messiah. In Judaism and Christianity, the promised “anointed one” or Messiah is Christ, the Savior.

A gentle reminder to all parishioners, commission chairs and ministry coordinators that Wednesday, June 30, 2021, is the final day of the fiscal year. Please forward all deposits, invoices, and check requests for recording in the July 1, 2020-June 30, 2021, fiscal year to Tina Boehm, finance and resource coordinator [email protected], no later than Wednesday, July 7, 2021, to be included in the year-end budgetary journal entries. If you are anticipating expenses that have not yet been in-voiced, please let Tina know that also.

Thank you for your financial sacrifices in your stewardship throughout this fiscal year. Even in a chaotic world pandemic, many of you came through keeping your parish a priority in your weekly contributions. You still have time to catch up. If you have not yet offered your stewardship gift due to the interruption of your routines be-cause of COVID-19, please do so. Make sure that all contributions are dated no later than June 30.

Thank you again for your continued spiritual and financial support of your parish and its ministries, programs, and activities. It would be great to close the budget shortfall for St. Boniface Parish to not begin next fiscal year with debt. As in the past, overages are placed in savings for unanticipated expenses as reflected in the cash asset and endow-ment accounts above. The goal each year is to cover ordinary expenses, St. Boniface Parish, you are almost there!

Have a blessed week. I hope you can join me this Sunday at 6:15 p.m. for the Patriotic Rosary at Historic St. Boniface Catholic Church. Enjoy the Independence Holiday ahead. The parish office will be closed on Monday, July 5, in observance of the July 4 Holiday. Safe travels to all who trav-el.

ST. MEINRAD PARISH FALL PICNIC SET FOR

SEPTEMBER 19 Plans are under way for our annual Fall Picnic set for the third Sunday in September. Please consid-er becoming a sponsor. If you have been a picnic sponsor in the past, thank you for your generous

support of this annual event. We hope to count on your support again this year. If you have yet to attend this picnic day, please mark your calendar to join the festivities in-person on the parish grounds and livestream, Sunday, September 19, 2021, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Central Time.

The annual fall picnic will be held on church grounds. Our picnic allows parishioners, friends, and neighbors to share time together in the out-door dining pavilion with live music throughout the day, weather permitting. Featured food items include BBQ Chicken Dinners and BBQ Pork Ribs. Food is available for dine-in, carry out and drive-thru with a pre-sale order option www.smcatholic.church/st-meinrad-fall-picnic. The day’s celebration will conclude with a quilt raffle, featuring two handmade quilts followed by an all-cash raffle with $5,500 in prizes. Your partnership and financial support are re-quested to make sure this year’s picnic will be enjoyed by all who join us for a spirit-filled day. Each year the funds raised at the fall picnic support the parish’s mission of nurturing an inten-tional faith-filled Catholic community and provid-ing programs for evangelization, faith formation and youth ministry.

In recent years picnic sponsorship provided the needed resources to offer the best hospitality and amenities. This included rental of a large festival tent for our outdoor dining space for 200+ people, live entertainment, festival signage with event schedule and maps, and activities for all ages.

Parishioners, friends and neighbors, along with local businesses, are receiving an invitation to partner with us once again. Please consider sup-porting this annual celebration by becoming a sponsor. All “In Memory / In Honor” designees will be recognized in the picnic day honor roll listing featured on the parish website and in local media sources.

A sponsorship level of $250 and above will be recognized for their support in local and archdioc-esan print and social media promotion along with the name of your family or business.

A sponsor at the Friend & Investor Levels ($1 - $249) will be featured throughout the day via livestream and on the parish website.

Please return the enclosed registration, identifying your sponsorship level, and listing the name of your business or family name as you wish to have it appear in advertising and sponsorship and “In Memory / In Honor” designees. Please return the form by July 26, 2021.

On behalf of the parish family of St. Meinrad Catholic Church in Spencer County, and our friends, neighbors and benefactors, thank you for your time, generosity, continued support and con-sideration of this request.

Please feel free to visit us in our parish church throughout the year open daily from dawn to dusk. Mass available in-person and livestream at www.smcatholic.church/live.

For more information about our annual parish picnic, visit www.smcatholic.church/fall-picnic.

HOW IS A PARISH GOAL SET?

Each parish throughout the archdiocese has a set goal for the annual appeal using a formula averag-ing the last three year’s Sunday and Holy Day collection totals.

50 STATES, 50 HAIL MARY’S: PAR-ISHES WILL PRAY PATRIOTIC RO-SARY ON JUNE 27

The patriotic rosary is a parish-wide prayer service dedicating one Hail Mary in the tra-ditional Catholic rosary to each state of the United States, asking God’s protection and guidance for the nation. The rosary includes prayers for all religious and government leaders and the citizens of each state.

The United States will celebrate its 245th year of independence from Great Britain on Sunday, July 4.

The public is invited to attend.
