WAY ... • Summer Bible Study - For six weeks during the summer, Father Ray will lead a Bible Study Group beginning at 7:30 P.M. in the church. The group will focus on the Sunday readings. Summer time is often a little less intense, and thus it provides us with some time to deepen our faith and our understanding of Scripture. A Summer Bible Study may be a perfect way to do that.
• As I drive around northern New Jersey, I pass a large number of churches, Catholic and Protestant, which have the word Shipwrecked somewhere on a banner on their property, or on their church sign. (I know I am dating myself but the first thing I think about when I see the signs is "Gilligan's Island.") As a way of saving money, many churches in the United States share the same Vacation Bible School resources. In other words, we each buy a "share" of a Vacation Bible Program, use it for one week, and then pass on the materials to the next "shareholder." In this way, even the smallest churches can have access to a highly developed vacation bible program, including props, themes, backgrounds, costumes, etc., without having to purchase the entire program. This summer, many of us are using a program entitled, "Shipwrecked: Rescued by Jesus," an innovative and interactive program designed to help introduce younger children to the Scriptures.
Our Vacation Bible School will run July 16-20 in the school. For more information and sign-up sheets, look for the flier elsewhere in this bulletin.
• On the other end of the age spectrum, we will host another Young Adult Gathering (ages 18-39) at The Shepherd and the Knucklehead, 529 Belmont Avenue in Haledon. Father Andrew Burns, who was with us briefly last summer, will return to give a brief talk (in between his studies in Rome), and the entertainment will be provided by our own cantor, Joe Hall, and Steve Simone from the from the Irish Folk Band, Ninemile House.
I am grateful to Deacon Charlie Lana for organizing this effort, and to Chris Schiavo for hosting it in his pub. • Next February 10-21, will be leading a Faith Vacation to the Holy land and Cyprus. We will be visiting many sites in Israel associated with the life of Our Lord, including Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Cana, and Capernaum, as well as spending two days visiting sites associated with Saint Paul on the island nation of Cyprus. The cost is $3,098 from Newark. For a flier with more detailed information, please stop by the rectory.
God bless you alI,
Father Ray

FOURTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First Reading: Ezekiel 2:2-5 Ezekiel is moved to respond to the call of God and to accen-tuate his teaching with a direct reference to the Word of God.
Second Reading: II Corinthians 12:7-10 Paul had questioned the value of his suffering, and God replied, “My grace is enough for you, for strength is made perfect in weakness.” Paul then realized that although he was weak against persecution, he was strong in faith.
Gospel: Mark 6:1-6a Jesus could do little for those in his own part of the country, for their lack of faith in him was so great. Therefore, he spent much of his time teaching in neighboring villages instead.

Become a Catholic The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process for those who desire to become Catholic. We welcome new members and pro-vide them with spiritual and catechetical formation. Individuals are helped with deep-ening their relationship with God, while at the same time broadening their understanding of the Church, its traditions and its teachings.
This communal process is for:
Adults who have never been baptized Adults baptized in a non-Catholic church but now desire to become Catholic Adults who were baptized Catholic but who
have not received the Sacraments of Holy Communion or Confirmation.
Classes begin in September with sessions being held on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:30 pm at St. Anthony’s School. We have a great team who will be presenting on the teachings of the Catholic Church.
Participants will enter fully into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil which will be celebrated on Saturday, April 20, 2019 on Holy Saturday evening. They receive the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and First Holy Eucharist) at the Easter Vigil.
Each participant will have a sponsor who will support them through their faith journey. The sponsor needs to be a fully initiated, practicing Catholic. If a candidate does not have someone to ask, we have parishioners who would be honored to serve as a sponsor.
For more information on the RCIA program, please contact Sister Betty Ann at 973-427-7873 or e-mail: [email protected]
We are happy to walk this faith journey with you!
