What’s New: Having managed an OfSTED inspection very successfully in March 2017, the school then prepared for its International Baccalaureate review which was completed last week. Unlike OfSTED we know that a review will happen every 5 years and we have twelve months to undertake a ‘self study’ involving meetings with key stakeholders and questionnaires. The outcome is an action plan which is presented to the visitors. We now await its consideration by moderators in The Hague, which is the headquarters of the IB’s Africa, Europe and the Middle East region. The final report will contain commendations, recommendations and, if appropriate, matters to be addressed. The review itself will cover both the IB Diploma and the Career Programme. We would like to thank the staff, parents and students who participated in this review. At the end of their stay one of the visitors commented that “it was a pleasure to meet and talk with your students”. We can now turn our attention to how we celebrate our 40th birthday as an IB World School. With the number of IB schools falling in the UK, it is of the utmost importance that we draw strength from this remarkable achievement and approach the future with renewed confidence. The IB approach to education affects everyone in the school; staff and students alike whether or not they actually follow an IB programme. We have identified 906 IB graduates who have passed through this school since 1990. We would like to hear from them and, indeed, anyone who went before them from the first year of the IB in 1977—please contact [email protected] Bulletin 4/12/17 Year 7: 4/12—Disco 6.30pm-7.30pm 7/12—7y Parents’ Evening Year 8: Consent and Partner forms for exchanges to be given to the International Office ASAP Year 9: Consent and Partner forms for exchanges to be given to the International Office ASAP Year 10: 12/12—Lyon long-term parents’ briefing Duke of Edinburgh applications due Year 11: Mock Exams—11-19th December. What’s New: Having managed an OfSTED inspection very successfully in March

2017, the school then prepared for its International Baccalaureate review

which was completed last week.

Unlike OfSTED we know that a review will happen every 5 years and we

have twelve months to undertake a ‘self study’ involving meetings with

key stakeholders and questionnaires. The outcome is an action plan

which is presented to the visitors. We now await its consideration by

moderators in The Hague, which is the headquarters of the IB’s Africa,

Europe and the Middle East region. The final report will contain

commendations, recommendations and, if appropriate, matters to be

addressed. The review itself will cover both the IB Diploma and the

Career Programme.

We would like to thank the staff, parents and students who participated in

this review. At the end of their stay one of the visitors commented that “it

was a pleasure to meet and talk with your students”.

We can now turn our attention to how we celebrate our 40th birthday as

an IB World School. With the number of IB schools falling in the UK, it

is of the utmost importance that we draw strength from this remarkable

achievement and approach the future with renewed confidence. The IB

approach to education affects everyone in the school; staff and students

alike whether or not they actually follow an IB programme. We have

identified 906 IB graduates who have passed through this school since

1990. We would like to hear from them and, indeed, anyone who went

before them from the first year of the IB in 1977—please contact

Crime Awareness Day As part of our commitment to high quality citizenship

education, Year 8 were treated to workshops

delivered by visitors to the school to educate pupils

on the importance of making good choices and the

possible consequences of making wrong choices. To

support pupils’ pastoral needs, their Form Tutors

spent the day with them following an alternative

timetable of workshops. Full story http://

A word from the Sixth Form: As we start to move towards the end of a long term,

it is very easy to already think you are in the

Christmas holidays and therefore start to wind down

in terms of your efforts and focus. My advice is that

you need to keep that drive and energy going right

to the end of the term, as these are still crucial

weeks. For the Upper Sixth, with your mock exams

taking place in the first weeks of next year, it is

essential that you use these remaining weeks to

consolidate your knowledge and to use your

teachers to clarify any outstanding questions, so that

you are fully prepared for your mock exams.

For the Lower Sixth, you will have noticed that the

amount of work and difficulty of it will have started

to increase since half term and therefore with 'mini-

mocks' on the horizon for you in the early part of

next term, you again need to make sure you are

reflecting on, and adding to, what you have learnt

so far. A final reminder, as we discussed in our

assembly, that a basic rule for success at this level is

that for every hour you are taught you should be

aiming to replicate that hour with independent

study, reviewing your understanding and reading

ahead for the next challenge. With only a few

weeks to go, I know you can maintain this focus, so

let's keep this going so that you can really say you

have 'earned' your holidays!

Attention all drivers ….

Could we remind all parents once again that

student safety whilst on school site is

paramount. Parents should only drive onto

the school site to pick up children if they

have a parking permit. Parking permits can

only be issued by the Headteachers upon

receipt of a letter, explaining the reasons

behind the need to drive onto school site.

Cars should be driving less than 5 MPH and

in a safe manner respecting the safety of all

students. We ask that no cars leave or enter

the school site between 3.30-3.45pm to

ensure the safe passage of students off the

premises. Please also respect the staff

members on duty who are trying to ensure

the safety of all the students.
