    INFORMATION BULLETIN 15 December 2012

FROM THE PRESIDENTThe Australian Dragon Boat Federation (AusDBF) warmly welcomes all clubs, paddlers,

officials, volunteers, supporters, families and friends to the 2013 AusDBF Australian Dragon

    Boat Championships.

This years AusChamps will also include the inaugural running of the Oceania and Trans-

Tasman Championships, with invitations extended to crews from New Zealand.

Our flagship event this season will be held at the Sydney International Rowing Centre (SIRC)

on 15-20 April. Best known as one of the world-class venues of the Sydney Olympics, it is

the third time the AusChamps have been held at Penrith. Previous Championships were

raced there in 2000 and 2007. It was also the venue for the 2007 World Championships.

The 2013 AusChamps will see Australian dragon boat racing at its best. Competition will be held over five fast and

exciting days, with the Trevor Huggard and Peter Bristow Trophies up for grabs, as well as three positions for the

2014 World Club Crew Championships in Italy.

With the larger Olympic course at our disposal, Championships can be contested over up to nine lanes. The

separate Masters Championship held this year will allow every paddler and club to contest the Masters andOpen

Age events without juggling team sheets and avoiding the dreaded doubling up problem.

We also expect to see the magical 3000 competitor mark passed for the first time. The 2012 AusChamps was our

fourth consecutive record breaking year - attracting 2954 paddlers and 75 clubs so the 2013 event should see a

new benchmark established. Make sure you and your club register early to be part of our ever biggest event.

Id also like to draw a couple of new safety measures to your attention. From this year there is limited doubling

up across age groups and categories. Masters competitors will be allowed to compete in a maximum of two

categories only, and all paddlers aged 70 or older will require a medical clearance before racing.

Make sure all paperwork, including Expressions of Interest (EOIs) are completed and returned. They are at the endof this Bulletin and will also be placed online.

More Bulletins will be released over summer. Check Facebook and Twitter, as well aswww.ausdbf.com.au, for all

the information you will need to make the most out of your AusChamps race day.

    Kel Watt

    AusDBF President
