Dear McLoughlin Families,
I would like to extend a sincere thank you to the many families that attended our Parent/Teacher Conferences this fall. We know that strong family support and connections to our school are critical to a student’s success in school. If you missed our conferences or would like to meet with your student’s team at any time, please do not hesitate to reach out. Our winter season is finally here. Should we have any inclement weather, we will be sharing possible school delays or closures through our Mass Messenger system as well as updates on our Medford School District webpage. If you need to update any contact information, please call our office at 541-842-3720. McLoughlin is proud to host a variety of events and activities in the afternoons and evenings. Boys Basketball is off to a fabulous start and Girls Basketball and Wrestling will be starting soon. Look for athletics updates to come! We will be hosting an informational, evening event on Thursday, January 24th for any prospective family that will be attending McLoughlin in the future or is interested in hearing more about our wonderful school. Look for our Save the Date card coming to your inboxes soon! Our Winter Break will begin on December 24. Classes will resume on Monday, January 7. On behalf of our Bulldog family, we want wish you all a happy, healthy and safe holiday season. See you in 2019!
Respectfully, Kelly Soter Principal
The Soter Scoop December 2018 / January 2019
Team 73 has the spirit! These students started the year by winning 3 Golden bones from the various spirit competitions throughout 1st quarter. We are going to carry that positive energy for the rest of the year. In Science with Mr. Gillette, students have been working hard making the transition from states of matter to learning about the earth’s interior. They show enthusiasm about science! In Social Studies with Mr. Hampton, students are studying historic world leaders from Alexander the Great to Julius Caesar. They are also studying the geography of India and Rome along with the cultural impact these people had on ancient civilizations. Students are exercising Social Studies skills ranging from historical evaluation & analysis, to academic debate & argument writing. They are using additional tools such as digital atlases for geography and Newsela (Reading Program) for current events. We have developed great routines, respectful on-task behaviors and positive relationships in class. In English with Mrs. Hamer, we are diving into Informational Reading and Writing. Students have already gotten the opportunity to choose a topic of interest to research and write about. We will learn to use scholarly databases for research and we will read important, relevant, and interesting informational articles using Newsela. We have also started using educational websites such as No Red Ink, Quizlet, Newsela, Pear Deck, and more. In Math 7 with Mr. Jones, students are learning the in’s and outs of integers and rational numbers and how they work together with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. In Pre-Algebra students are learning all about Pythagoras and what he thought of triangles that were right! Students are putting their knowledge to the test and presenting a lesson to their peers as one of their latest assignments. On Team 73 we all utilize Google classroom. Please make sure to check PAL for updates on your student’s grades. If you have not signed up for PAL, please call the school office at 541-842-3720.

AND NOW...Mac Site Council!
What is Site Council? Mac Site Council is a team made up of
parents, teachers, classified staff, administration and
community members. They meet monthly to determine the
action plans needed to improve our school in a variety of ways.
This team also helps teachers continue their learning through
professional development opportunities. Our next meeting is
December 3rd from 3:45-5:45 in the McLoughlin main office.
Everyone is welcome to attend a Site Council meeting to hear
and see what is going on behind the scenes at our school. If
you have ideas or questions please feel free to contact:

Immunizations
Exclusion Date
The exclusion date is fast approaching for
students who are not current with their
immunizations.
What does this mean to you?
Oregon Law (ORS 433.267) requires that all
children attending public schools show
evidence of compliance with state
immunization requirements or have a
non-medical exemption. Most 7th grade
students are still in need of their Tdap booster,
also known as the whooping cough vaccine.
For those of you who have already had this
done and turned in the paperwork, thank you!
If you are not sure if your student is up-to-date,
please call your doctor. If your student is not in
compliance by February 20th, 2019 he/she will
not be able to attend school until we have proof
that all vaccines are current. If you have any
questions, please contact Julie Boekenoogen
at 541-842-3716
Student of the Month As you might already know, McLoughlin is full
of outstanding students; students that are smart,
kind, accepting, gracious etc. One of the ways we recognize
these individual students is by selecting a Student of the
Month. Monthly, team teachers select a student from each
team that they feel exemplify one or more of these character
traits. We are proud to announce, and want to congratulate,
the following students selected for the month of November.
Team 61 - Marcus Johnson
Team 71 - Ellie Taylor
Team 72 - Rachel Rustad
Team 73 - Kiana Patrick
Team 81 - Isaac Madigan
Team 82 - Adrinna Sanchez
Team 83 - Tobias Whitley
Booster Club Meeting
Are you interested in joining the MAC Booster
Club? Join Mrs. Soter for an informational
meeting, on January 9th from 6:00 to 7:00 pm
in the media center She will share her vision
and take questions.
Student of Distinction Breakfast
On November 9th, Students of the Month from September and October were honored at our STUDENTS of
DISTICTION BREAKFAST. Mrs. Soter and Mrs. MacLeod host this event and each student was asked to
invite their parents, family members and one staff member to join him/her at their table. The staff member introduces
the student and shares with the audience the accomplishments and character qualities unique to that student. Again
this year, we are privileged to have the Mayor of Medford, Dr. Gary Wheeler, attend to honor our students with a
certificate from the city. This breakfast is a wonderful way to recognize these outstanding students and get to know
them and their families on a more personal level.
