DECEMBER 2019

Roe Highway and Kalamunda Road Interchange ProjectConstruction Update

Construction of the Roe Highway and Kalamunda Interchange project is well underway with completion on track for early 2021The detailed design of the project is nearing completion. In recent months, construction activity has significantly increased across various locations of the project site. however, the impact on road users and the surrounding community remains limited and is being minimised by the contractor (Georgiou Group) as far as possible.

Key activities: December 2019

Bulk Excavation

The most visible construction activities are the bulk excavations for the foundations for the new Kalamunda Road bridge over Roe Highway. The excavation is planned to be completed by mid-December 2019. The implementation of traffic management configurations and temporary barrier protection along Kalamunda Road (East) is also in place to support this activity.

Principal Shared Path Extension: Maida Vale Road to Berkshire Road

Construction activity is progressing well on the Principal Shared Path (PSP) extension between Maida Vale Road and Berkshire Road. Clearing and mulching was undertaken in August 2019.

In September, the team commenced construction of the path including drainage and embankments along Roe Highway south bound. This activity saw an increase in plant excavators, Bobcats, Tip Trucks, Water Carts and Light Vehicle movements around both Maida Vale Road and Sultana Road East. We thank local residents and road users for their patience and support while the works have been carried out.

It is anticipated that the path will be fully constructed (pathed) and ready for opening in early 2020.

A further update about the official opening of the path will be shared with the community closer to completion.

Essential Services Relocations

Across the project footprint, from the northern corridor near the Hillview Public Golf Course onto David Street reserve, there has been a significant amount of essential services relocations (water, power, gas, electricity and telecommunications) to allow for the construction of the of the new interchange. We expect this activity to be completed in early 2020.

The installation of a new Water Corporation pumping station on the David Street reserve is progressing well and we expect pipe works and associated earthworks to be completed by Christmas.

Vegetation Clearing along Kalamunda Road (East)

Vegetation clearing is currently taking place in the road reserve along Kalamunda Road, to the east of the Roe Highway intersection.

This clearing is required to accommodate both the new eastbound lane on Kalamunda Road and to construct a new access point and driveway to the Hillview Public Golf Course to the east of its current location. This relocated driveway will move the entry and exit point to the golf course further away from Roe Highway, improving safety outcomes for golf course patrons and other road users.

Through careful alignment selection and design modifications, we have minimised the clearing footprint for the new driveway and can retain a significant number of large, established trees.
