Instructions to BIM Planning Team

This template is provided to standardize the format for the documented BIM Execution Plan (BIMxP) for a given project for the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). Successful execution of a BIM requires careful planning; it is not the intent of this document to be a form to fill out, but rather to be a simple yet comprehensive framework for this planning process, as well as the documentation of the results of this planning.

The framework for this template follows the more comprehensive USAP Building Information Modeling Standard, which should be reviewed as the first part of the planning process. Text using the “Instructions” text style, such as this paragraph, are intended to provide minimal direction during the completion of the BIM Execution Plan, but do not replace the more thorough issues, concepts, and technical requirements documented in the Standard.

This BIMxP is a required deliverable to the USAP and focuses on those issues of prime importance to the USAP. It intentionally does not address other BIM planning issues that a firm may need to consider in order to execute BIM, such as file naming, server names, folder locations, technological needs, key internal personnel, etc. However, in the interest of not producing two BIMxPs (once for the USAP and one for internal use), internal requirements may be included in this same document at the planners’ discretion.

All Instructions, including these paragraphs, should be deleted from the template prior to submission.

This Template is Revision 0, First Issue. Contact the USAP BIM Program Manager for the most recent version. Revision block above is for the actual BIM Execution Plan, not the Template.

SECTION 1

Overview This section of the BIM Execution Plan (BIMxP) is of utmost importance. Companies developing a BIM for the USAP are expected to follow their BIM execution plan as described in this document and especially in this narrative.

1.1 Purpose The purpose of this plan is to ensure compliance with the USAP BIM Standard. The plan covers the minimal elements that are expected in order to show compliance.

Additional verbiage/narrative may be provided as appropriate.

1.2 Project Information PROJECT INFORMATION

Owner

Name (of project or facility)

Station in Antarctica

Contract Type / Delivery Method

Other (i.e. contract or project nr., as desired)

Provide a brief narrative description of the project including number of facilities, facility type(s), general size (SF, stories), purpose and function of facility, etc.

1.3 Vision Provide a short narrative explaining how the BIM developed as part of this project will directly support the USAP BIM Vision, as described in Sections 1 and 9 of the USAP BIM Standard.

1.4 Executive Summary Provide a 1-2 page narrative describing how the project will be executed in BIM in the context of the USAP BIM Standard. This narrative should demonstrate understanding of the USAP BIM Standard by describing how the execution of the BIM will meet the standard requirements. Specific topics to include, with references to the USAP BIM Standard:

• BIM Key Personnel; reference USAP BIM Standard Section 2.5

• BIM Production; Reference USAP BIM Standard Section 4

• BIM Uses; Reference USAP BIM Standard Section 6

• Special BIM Considerations and Issues
