PREFACE

This Directory of Building Services Engineers contains names, addresses and other contact details of Corporate Members of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka who have been identified by the Institution as qualified to prepare and certify plans, designs and drawings of structures, facilities or systems related to services for buildings. Urban Development Authority has gazetted the services of certain types of buildings that have to be approved and certified by Qualified Persons and this Directory was prepared in order for the public to identify such persons and obtain their services. The Qualified Persons listed in this Directory are equally eligible to certify Local Authority plans as well.

The Directory would be updated from time to time and that will be posted on the IESL website.

PREAMBLE

The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) was established by an Act of Parliament and is authorized to grant the status of Chartered Engineer in the fields of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Chemical & Process Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Agriculture & Plantation Engineering, Mining Engineering, Marine Engineering and Building Services Engineering.

The Corporate Members of this Institution use the title ‘Chartered Engineer’ or ‘CEng.’ after their names together with the acronym ‘MIE (Sri Lanka)’ if they are in the grade of “Member” and the acronym ‘FIE (Sri Lanka)’ if they are in the senior grade of “Fellow”.

The Urban Development Authority (UDA) has passed regulations where Service Plans and Designs (including plans and designs related to the supply of electricity and water, sewerage, drainage, rain water harvesting, fire safety, air conditioning and mechanical ventilation etc.) of certain categories of buildings shall be prepared only by Qualified Persons in the relevant field, who shall be Corporate Members of this Institution.

Accordingly, the IESL has identified persons of such standing and prepared a list of Chartered Engineers who fall into the category of Qualified Persons eligible to prepare plans and designs, supervise the construction or installation of building service facilities of these buildings, and to certify building services and Engineering aspects of these buildings.

These Qualified Persons have been categorized under seventeen (17) groups according to relevant specialty in the field of Building Services Engineering. The Directory also identifies limitations of such qualified personnel to certify services only to those specialties listed against their names.

The IESL has also issued a seal to its members who are qualified to certify calculations and drawings pertaining to all Building Services Engineering works in terms of the UDA regulations.

Please note that the IESL has made it mandatory for its members to use this seal when certifying service plans, designs or any other documents to the relevant authority. The format of the seal is given below.

DISCLAIMER

A person or an organization who wishes to seek the services of these listed engineers should do so by contacting the listed member/s directly and for a fee determined between such member/s and such person or an organization. The IESL has approved a guideline for consultancy fee structure which is available at IESL website and that could be used as a guideline if wish to do so. However, the final decision would entirely the responsibility of the party who seeks the services and the engineer who provides the services.

The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) does not take responsibility or liability for any actions or omission on the part of these listed engineers in carrying out any work related to or outside

their field of specialty.
