EVENT SUMMARY

KEY FACTS

The Middle East Healthcare Informatics Summit successfully concluded on 28th October, 2014 at Shangri-La Hotel, Dubai, UAE. The summit brought together over 200 government, policy makers, healthcare providers and solution providers with the objective to align hospitals and healthcare professionals that need to adopt and utilize informatics in all levels of service to improve efficiency and manage cost and be able to interact with the patients and all professionals involved in the continuum of health care and continuity of care. An international panel of speakers comprising of 24 leading experts highlighted informatics as a major part of their presentations and addressed the subject from a different point of view: healthcare management, data governance, operations and financial, sound and consistent governance of healthcare data and more governance to ensure reliability and integrity of information, data and services. Experts present at the summit recommend the following for the industry:• Protect your data and protect patient information• Be ready for Healthcare 3.0, A new era of healthcare informatics - Data Driven Best Practices, Collaboration and Accountability, a new level of system/service/data integration and user engagement• Demand and expect seamless integrated systems that naturally match the flow of your services – the days of going back and forth from one system to another has gone• Be prepared to put your patient in the driver seat - patients will demand owning and managing their own health information. This will require portable healthcare information to freely share and transport across the globe• Demand for Quality and Accountability - not just from patients but also from service providers dealing with Informatics vendors and solutions• Clinical Informatics is coming and will be deployed and necessary in all levels of healthcare services. As the penetration of technology and informatics increases in all level of healthcare services, so will the need for Clinical Informatics, Nurses, Physicians, Technicians who have hands on experience in the healthcare and have been retrained in utilization, deployment and even development of information technology from HIS, EMR, EPR, LIS, RIS, PACS, .... The overall feedback indicated a success in its 1st year. We would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the significant contribution of American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), EHIS, sponsors, exhibitors and support partners who made the summit so meaningful.
