Gain the NEMA Advantage

Our visionNEMA’s EVSE Section and its members support the development of the EVSE market and educate the market on the features and values of EVSE infrastructure around the world by

• leading consistent efforts for domestic and international codes and standards;

• advocating for unified industry positions on legislative and regulatory issues regarding EVSE adoption at local, state, and national levels;

• collaborating with EVSE sales channel partners, including contractors and installers, on efforts such as training programs;

• aligning efforts with major stakeholders in the electric vehicle (EV) market, including auto manufacturers, electric utilities, and regulatory agencies.

Objectives & involvementLeading consistent positions for domestic and international codes and standards:

• Rewrote Article 625: Electric Vehicle Charging Systems in both the 2014 and 2017 National Electrical Code

• Helped draft the National Conference of Weights and Measures regulations on metrological requirements for commercial EVSEs

• Developing standards on commercial and residential EVSE embedded metering that will serve the industry for metrological certification purposes

• Developing a comprehensive networks interoperability standard addressing several gaps identified by the ANSI Electric Vehicle Standardization Panel (EVSP) to allow for smooth EVSE networks roaming

• Supporting harmonization of North American EVSE certification standards through the Council for Harmonization of Electrotechnical Standardization of the Nations of the Americas (CANENA)

• Providing input on technical EVSE-specific issues , such as safety certification, cables, wiring devices, and couplers

Advancing industry-supported regulatory and legislative policies:

• Working directly with policymakers at all levels of government to incentivize development of EVs

• Promoting awareness among policymakers of infrastructure requirements for rapid deployment of EVs and EVSE

• Tracking and responding to rulemakings and requests for information on relevant issues

Providing EVSE manufacturers with the business intelligence they need to successfully compete in the global economy:

• Educating the market on the features and values of EVSE infrastructure through training programs with EVSE sales channel partners
