GENERAL TOURS OF THE INDIVIDUAL EXHIBITION SITES BUGA at the egapark – garden design as an all-round experience A former convent and later a citadel, which became the venue for the first international horticultural exhibition in 1961 – the area now known as egapark has had an eventful history. During BUGA Erfurt 2021, the heritage-listed 36 hectare site will serve as the largest exhibition space. The general tour covers the visitor centre and the German Horticultural Museum, along with a wide range of themed gardens, flower shows, Europe’s largest ornamental flowerbed and much more besides. VAT) BUGA at the Petersberg Citadel – exploring the attractions of a baroque town fortress Petersberg Citadel, the only extensively preserved baroque town fortress in central Europe, was built on the site of a former Benedictine monastery. It dates from a time when Erfurt was ruled by the Electors of Mainz and is a unique example of the European style of fortress construction. A number of areas of the citadel will be redesigned especially for the Federal Horticultural Show (BUGA). At the main entrance of the exhibition area on the upper level of Petersberg hill, BUGA visitors will be greeted by expansive plantings of annuals and a spectacular view of Erfurt’s old quarter, while the city’s horticultural heritage is celebrated in the moat of the citadel. Visitors receive a general overview of the two venues, historical Petersberg Citadel and egapark, Thuringia’s most beautiful garden. Duration: 4 hours (incl. transfer) Meeting point: at egapark or at Petersberg Citadel, depending on group preference Group size: max. 35 people per group Price per group: € 215.00 (incl. During BUGA Erfurt 2021, in the period from 23 April to 10 October 2021, tram line no. 2 will become the BUGA line, directly linking the main station via Anger with Domplatz/Cathedral Square (for Petersberg Citadel) and with the egapark stop. This will provide visitors with easy access to both of the BUGA exhibition sites of Petersberg Citadel and egapark.
