T he 50 cars - 20 p a sse nger coaches , 20 snack- bar coaches , and
10 par lor cars = c os t in g abou t $21 mil l ion , are be ing bui l t under a
con trac t f rom the Pe nn Ce n t ra l R ai l ro a d .
B efore B udd t u r n s the f in ished cars over to the Penn Centra l
Ra i l road , i t wi l l con d u ct a se r i es o f mechanical and e lect r ica l tes ts .
I n an associa ted pr o jec t , B udd also bu i l t four high- speed labor -
a tory cars . T he se re c e nt ly compl e ted the i r successful t es t on the
Penn Centra l Ra i l road 's 2 1-mi le tes t t rack between T ren ton and N ew
B runswick, N ew Jersey when the y achieved speeds of 157 m.p.h .

T he N ortheas t Cor r idor Project is a two- year demonst ra t ion
program to provide fas ter and improved rai l road service in the Wash-
ing ton-New York -B o s to n area with the aid of F edera l funds from
aut hor iza tions p ro vided by the High S peed Ground T ranspor ta t ion R e-
sea rch and D evelopme n t Act s igned into law S eptember 30 , 1965, by
