Dear Parents

Although this has been a long term it has passed by very quickly. Our new Reception children

have all settled into the school and look as if they have been here longer than just a term.

The school community has had a very busy term since returning after the long summer

break. The first event of the school year was our Harvest Festival Service at St Mary’s

Church. This service is a key event not only to celebrate the harvest but it is also the first

time our reception children join the rest of the school for a whole school service. Thank you

for the donations received – these have been distributed by the church.

Our Year 6 children took part in the schools inaugural visit to Normandy in France. Whilst in

France, they visited the Normandy battlefields, a chocolate factory, a cheese farm, a cider

factory and spent a day in the town of Rouen. Everyone had a wonderful time. We are

already preparing for next years visit.

Our sports teams have kicked off the academic year with a full calendar of events. The Year

5/6 football team took part in an early season tournament and were runners-up. They have

also started their games for the Dickenson Cup. They won the first round and now progress

to the next round – the match to be played in the Spring term. The Year 5/6 girls football

team won a tournament at Stukeley Meadows school. The tag rugby team played in the

Hunts Schools Sports Partnership tournament and progressed through the pool games to the

runners up matches. Well done to all members of the sports teams, you have shown great

commitment and sportsmanship

We have had many events during this term – the European Languages week when the

children studied different countries in Europe and ended the week with a European themed

dinner. Red, White and Blue day was a day raising money for the Armed Forces. We raised

£186.60 for the armed forces charity. Our MacMillan coffee afternoon raised £135.35 for the

MacMillan Cancer Charity. Year 5 had a Viking Day, learning about life in Viking times.

Following an art masterclass the Year 5/6 classes created their own pictures for an art

exhibition which was held at St Marys Church. Prizes were given for the best pictures.

The Christmas season was full of festive cheer with Christmas plays by the Reception children

and the Year 1/2 children and the ever popular Christmas dinner when over 150 visitors

came in to school. Years 3, 4, and 5 put on a music concert for parents to showcase our

beacon school work with Cambridgeshire music. The Key Stage 2 Carol Concert at St Marys

Church was a very festive occasion attended by many families and friends. Thank you to all

who contributed to the collection which totalled £127.73. This will be donated to the

Salvation Army.

We are now looking forward to the Spring term with busy times ahead when we return on

Monday 5th

January. We would like to wish the school community a very happy Christmas

and a prosperous new year.

The Friends of Buckden School need your help to design a new logo.

Over the Christmas holidays we would like you to create a new logo for our committee. The logo must include the

wording ‘Friends of Buckden School’ and be creative and fun. Please use a sheet of A4 paper for your design.

The competition is open to all year groups. There will be first, second and third prizes. The design that wins first prize

School Crossing Mrs Stewart will be retiring from crossing patrol

duties at the end of term on Friday 19th

December.

Although the post has been advertised by

Cambridgeshire County Council there were no

applicants, so therefore there will be no crossing

patrol on Mill Road when we return to school in

January. Please be vigilant and take care with your

children when crossing the road.

Mrs Stewart would like to pass on a thank you to all

parents who have supported her over the years that

she has been on the crossing.

Weather Should we be faced with the prospect of winter

closures we will put notices on the school website, the

school facebook page and send out a message on

Parentmail to keep parents informed of the latest

details relating to the school’s status. Please bear in

mind that a decision to close in extreme weather is the

last resort. We also need to take into account the

health and safety issues in and around the school in

freezing weather, along with the fact that many of our

staff commute and we need to ensure their safety in

travelling to and from work.

We also need to take into account the

health and safety issues in and around the school in

freezing weather, along with the fact that many of our

staff commute and we need to ensure their safety in

travelling to and from work.

applicants, so therefore there will be no crossing

Mrs Stewart would like to pass on a thank you to all

Weather Should we be faced with the prospect of winter

closures we will put notices on the school website, the

school facebook page and send out a message on

Parentmail to keep parents informed of the latest

details relating to the school’s status. Please bear in

mind that a decision to close in extreme weather is the

last resort. We also need to take into account the

health and safety issues in and around the school in

freezing weather, along with the fact that many of our

staff commute and we need to ensure their safety in

travelling to and from work.

The Friends of Buckden School

Design a logo competition

The Friends of Buckden School need your help to design a new logo.

Over the Christmas holidays we would like you to create a new logo for our committee. The logo must include the

wording ‘Friends of Buckden School’ and be creative and fun. Please use a sheet of A4 paper for your design.

The competition is open to all year groups. There will be first, second and third prizes. The design that wins first prize

will be used on our correspondence, boards and posters for the next year.

All entries must be returned to the School Office by Friday 9th

January 2015.

We look forward to seeing your designs.

Merry Christmas!

The competition is open to all year groups. There will be first, second and third prizes. The design that wins first prize

School Crossing Mrs Stewart will be retiring from crossing patrol

duties at the end of term on Friday 19th

Although the post has been advertised by

Cambridgeshire County Council there were no

applicants, so therefore there will be no crossing

patrol on Mill Road when we return to school in

January. Please be vigilant and take care with your

children when crossing the road.

Mrs Stewart would like to pass on a thank you to all

parents who have supported her over the years that

Weather Should we be faced with the prospect of winter

closures we will put notices on the school website, the

school facebook page and send out a message on

Parentmail to keep parents informed of the latest

details relating to the school’s status. Please bear in

mind that a decision to close in extreme weather is the

last resort. We also need to take into account the

health and safety issues in and around the school in

freezing weather, along with the fact that many of our

staff commute and we need to ensure their safety in

travelling to and from work.
