Newsletter

February, 2014

Note from the Editor

Here it is February and only a few days it will be

Valentine’s Day. My husband and I still exchange

Valentine cards and maybe go out for dinner. I can

remember as a child in grade school how excited we

would get on Valentine’s Day. Everyone made a

special box to sit on their desk for your classmates to

put their Valentine for you in. Then on Valentine’s

Day the room mothers would come in with home

baked cupcakes and punch and everyone went

through their Valentine’s. Even if you did not like

someone you gave them a Valentine anyway. Now

that all of our grandchildren are out of grade school I

have no idea how it works today.

This past month has been a very busy month. At

the county level we have been working very hard to

get all of our ducks in a row to purchase land for a

new County Road Maintenance Shop. Hopefully at

this month’s meetings this project will finally move

forward.

We have also been very busy finalizing our house

plans. We have already made two change orders

and they have not even been able to dig the

foundation. Hopefully by the end of this month we

will see some progress. We will be anxious to get

the house completed and hopefully move in by fall.

The home we are renting is very workable, but we

are basically living with the very bare minimum of

unpacking. It will also be nice to be closer to

Plattsmouth. While it is only a 10 mile drive into

town, I often make 2-3 trips in a day, depending on

my meeting schedule.

I guess the old groundhog saw his shadow, so we

are in for six more weeks of winter. If you look at

the calendar it is really 6 ½ weeks to Spring on

March 20. Keep warm until them.

Sincerely,

Janet McCartney

Parking in Driveways There are seven sets of Covenants for Buccaneer Bay.

When you purchased your home/property you should have

received a copy of the covenants for your area at closing.

Also, when you receive a Welcome Package from

Neighborhood Watch there is a copy of the covenants that

governs your part of the neighborhood. If you do not have a

copy of the covenants you can logon to Buccaneer Bay

website at www.buccaneerbay-ne.org and find a copy of the

covenants that govern your lot.

Most every covenants except two have the following

stated in the regarding items parked in driveways:

“No automobile, boat, camping trailer, van-type

campers, auto-drawn trailer of any kind, mobile home,

motorcycle, snowmobile, or other self-propelled vehicles shall

be stored or maintained outside of the garage or approved

accessory building. For purposes of the preceding provision,

"stored or maintained outside of the garage or approved

accessory building" shall mean, parking the vehicle or trailer

on the driveway, or any part of the Lot, outside of the garage

or approved accessory building for four (4) or more

consecutive days. All repair or maintenance work on

automobiles, boats, camping trailers, van-type campers,

auto-drawn trailers of any kind, mobile homes, motorcycles,

snowmobiles or other self-propelled vehicles done on the

premises must be done in the garage or approved accessory

building. The dedicated street right-of-way located between

the pavement and the lot line of any residential Lot shall not

be used for the parking of any vehicle, boat, camper, or

trailer. Automobiles and other self-propelled vehicles parked

out-of-doors within the premises above-described, or upon the

streets thereof, must be in operating condition.”

The covenants for Bay Lake (Blocks 21-26) only notes

that a drive-way at least 10’ wide is required for off-street

parking.

The covenants for Blocks 1-20, the original “Hills” area

has the following:

RECREATIONAL VEHICLE STORAGE:

No boat, camper, van type camper, auto drawn trailer of

any kind, mobile home, motorcycle, snowmobile or

similar chattel shall be kept, parked or stored outside of

the garage for more than a total of twenty (20) days

within a calendar year. When thusly stored, the personal

property shall be on a paved hard surface driveway or

paved pad adjacent to the driveway.

VEHICLE PARKING:

Private passenger vehicles shall be in operating

condition and shall only be kept, parked or stored

inside the garage or on a paved hard surface driveway

or paved pad adjacent to the driveway.

Remember the SID does not enforce covenants, it is up to

property owners to enforce covenants. Please be sure you

are familiar with your covenants.

Cass County CASA Volunteers Needed!

We are currently recruiting CASA Volunteers for the upcoming training session scheduled in April 2014.

We only train two classes a year, call and reserve your spot today?

What does a Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteer do? Each CASA volunteer is screened trained

and completes 30 hours of pre-service training. Once trained, CASA volunteers are assigned under the

Juvenile Court jurisdiction to speak on behalf of a child to ensure the needs and interests of abused and

neglected children are being met.

Who are CASA volunteers? Our active volunteers are individuals from our community who work part-

time, full-time or are retired. Volunteers commit to one year with a child, but seldom leave a case until it

has been terminated.

If I can't be a CASA volunteer, how can I help? In addition to training new CASA volunteers, we are also

in need of administrative services support such as: filing, data entry and making copies.

Your help directly benefits the Cass County CASA Program. A donor-supported volunteer organization

whose mission is to offer court-appointed volunteer advocacy to children that are abused, neglected and

often find themselves lost in the court system. Through Cass County CASA, these children are placed

with advocates that speak on their behalf and know them well enough to make informed

recommendations to the judge.

Please call Angie Neumiller, Executive Director at (402) 296-9620 or email [email protected] and

become a CASA volunteer today.
