How it all works

Please read these instructions in full before starting the installation, to make sure it goes smoothly.

• Your BT Vision V-box™ will sit near your television, and will use the supplied Comtrend Powerline Adapters to connect to your BT Home Hub.

• We know that most people have their main TV in the living-room and their PC elsewhere in the home. Following the steps in this guide means the BT Home Hub and BT Vision V-box™ do not need to be near each other. The Powerline Adapters automatically allow the BT Vision V-box™ to communicate with the BT Home Hub.

How it all works

How to do I tell if my Powerline Adapters are working correctly?

• When working normally, one of your Powerline Adapters should be displaying the orange AP (Access Point) Light, green Status Light and green Ethernet Light.

• The other Powerline Adapter should have both the green Status Lights and the green Ethernet Light on.

• When the equipment is successfully attached the Ethernet Light should be lit up, and when you’re using the connection it will fl ash. You may notice that the Status Light on your Powerline Adapter light changes to red or orange on one or both powerline devices. This isn’t something to worry about as long as you aren’t having any problems with your BT Vision service.

I have no lights on my Powerline Adapter, what should I do?

• If you have plugged the Adapter into a mains power socket but no lights are showing please ensure that the power is switched on at the mains.

• If you have done this and no lights appear on the device check the socket you are plugging it into with another device in your house such as a table lamp etc. If this device works but your Powerline

Both my Powerline Adapters show orangeAP Lights. Is this correct?

• No. Only one AP Light of the pair should be orange. If both are orange, this is because both your Powerline Adapters are set up as Access Points. You will need to carry out the following to rectify this issue:

Step 1

• Ensure that both Powerline Adapters are in close proximity for this procedure as you may fi nd you have to move them into an extension strip or double wall socket. Once reconfi gured they can be repositioned in their original location.

• Press and keep holding the [CONFIG/F RESET] button on one of the Powerline Adapters. The orange AP Light will start to fl ash. Keep holding the [CONFIG/RESET] button until the AP Light goes out and then release it.

• This process should take about 10 seconds.

FAQs

I have no spare Ethernet Socket on my BT Home Hub – what should I do?

• Depending on what device you are trying to wirelessly network to your BT Home Hub depends on what wireless add-on device you would need.

• If you are using a games console or similar device please refer to manufacturers instructions as usually a proprietary wireless device will need to be purchased.

• If you are attempting to network a desktop PC via wireless than you will need to use either an internal PCI wireless network card or a USB wireless device. The decision on which you use depends on whether your PC supports PCI cards and/or USB. Most modern PC’s will support both, but if unsure it is best to refer back to manufacturers instructions on this.

• If using a laptop you have the choice of purchasing a PCMCIA wireless card or a USB wireless device. If unsure it is best to refer back to manufacturers instructions on this.
