We will also be hosting an afternoon beading session for parents on Thursday, October 15th, 2015. Please watch for more information being sent home soon. If you have any suggestions or skills you would like to share, please let me know. I can be reached at 204-729-3951. I look forward to working with all stu-dents and parents. September has been Pete The Cat month in
Kindergarten. The students have been very
busy reading Pete books, creating Pete art
and playing Pete games.
On Sunday, September 20th the 3rd annual Childhood
Dreams Car Show was held on Valleyview school
grounds. 215 cars registered with numerous amounts
of spectators taking part in this wonderful event.
From a bouncy castle, limbo contest and noise minute
to the gorgeous weather, we could not have asked for
a better day!
Parent council hosted a BBQ and silent auction
raising just over $3,000 towards the new playground.
Money raised from the car show and 50/50 went to
the Pediatrics Unit at the Brandon General Hospital.
Approximately another $3,000 was raised for that
cause as well!
We would like to thank all parents, staff and sponsors
for their help in making this day such a success. We
couldn’t have done it without the help of so many
people. Also a huge thank you to everyone who came
out that day to support these wonderful children’s
causes!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Darvill

On the trick-or-treat trail
A parent or responsible adult should take young children trick or treating.
If your child is going alone, make sure you know where he/she is going and what time he/ she will be home.
Trick-or-Treaters should:
Stay in a group.
Carry a cell phone for emergencies.
Only go to homes with a light on.
Stay on well-lit streets and use the sidewalks.
If there are no sidewalks, walk at the side of the road, facing traffic.
Cross the street at intersections
Never cut across yards or use alleys.
Never go in a stranger's home or car for a treat.
Trick or treaters should be extra careful on the streets. Drivers may have trouble seeing them. Just because one car stops, doesn't mean others will.
Healthy Halloween
Check the treats before allowing your child to eat any. Throw away any spoiled, unwrapped or suspicious items.
Halloween safety tips
Valleyview staff and students are looking forward to Halloween
festivities on the afternoon of Friday, October 30th. Students who
wish to dress up may do so that afternoon. Please make sure that
your child’s costume is appropriate for school. Just a reminder that
no toy weapons are allowed. We kick off the afternoon with a
costume parade
in the gym at
12:50 p.m.
Parents are
welcome to
attend the
parade.
Following the
parade, classes
will take part in
classroom activities. We are looking forward to seeing all the
creative costumes.

WHAT IS THE TEAL PUMPKIN PROJECT?!?
The Teal Pumpkin Project, (a Food Allergy Research & Education-FARE- initiative) promotes
safety, inclusion and respect of individuals living with food allergies. This nationwide movement offers ideas
for alternatives to food that your family can give out at Halloween and painting a pumpkin teal, the official
color of food allergy awareness, and setting it out for families and trick-or-treaters to see, will indicate
that you are providing safe,non-food treats! You may also download teal pumpkin posters from the
www.foodallergyresearch&education site & post them you window!
Frequently Asked Q's About Non-Food Treats!
Are there any non-food treats that I should avoid?
Some non-food items still contain food allergens, such as some brands of moldable clay (Playdoh), which contains
wheat. Additionally, try to choose latex-free items, as there are children who have latex allergies.
How can I safely pass out food items along with non-food items?
The point of the Teal Pumpkin Project™ is to make trick-or-treating as inclusive as possible. You can keep the
experience safe by keeping your food treats and non-food treats in separate bowls.
If I’m handing out candy and non-food treats, how do I determine which treat to give to each trick-or-
treater?
You can either ask trick-or-treaters if they have any food allergies, or give every visitor a choice of which treat
they’d like: candy or a non-food item.
Do kids really like non-food treats?
They don’t just like them, they love them! These types of treats are unique and stand out!!
All above ideas and images are respectfully borrowed from: F.A.R.E. and their program, the Teal Pumpkin Project.
