Newsletter No. 14 June 03, 2016 BSO Forum Seminar On Membership in Moldova The idea behind the BSO Forums is to connect Donors and Implementers with the community of Business Support and Business Membership Organisations (BSO, BMO). There are many interesting projects and opportunities to get assistance and grants but BSOs, especially in the regions, know little about it, which leads to the frustration of the Donors, because of their weak participation. Can a forum help to better connect these groups? Yes, and the feedback was great when Speranta Olaru (EUD) presented the EU initiatives. Now, there are 18 projects on SME Development represented under the EU4Business Brand. In this session UNDP, GIZ, ODIMM, the World Bank, EBRD, the Ministry of Economy of Moldova presented their projects including East Invest 2 implemented by EUROCHAMBRES and UEAPME. After the presentation, during the speed-dating session, BMOs/BSOs had the opportunity to talk to the Donors Community. Now we try to further develop this format with our next events in Georgia, Belarus, Armenia, Ukraine and Azerbaijan. Unexpectedly, on the first day of the Seminar on Membership, everyone was more than on time. Already at 09:00 the seminar room was full, despite the fact that the government had announced June 1, 2016 as a national holiday just the day before. The Moldavan Chamber of Commerce and Industry provided an innovative setup: Rodica Bivol is an experienced trainer and she did a great job creating a perfect environment for the training. The two experts - Christian Putzer, from Austria, and Silva Mesropyan, from Armenia, were eager to work with the highly motivated group from different regions of Moldova. Increasing Membership in Association is not an easy job, despite the fact that membership fees are low. "We charge only EUR 40,-- per year and still some of them do not pay", noted the Gagausian Association. After the trainings this will change radically according to the participants who are looking forward to two more days of intensive training and coaching. Moldova's Coalition of Business Support Organisations

Reforming Moldova - is this possible? For the the newly founded Coalition of Business Support Organisation the clear answer is Yes and they will go for it together. Monday afternoon they voted for the formation of a coalition after presentations from Christian Gessl about Coalition Building experiences in Georgia, Armenia and Ukraine. "Be patient and do not get frustrated too quickly" was one of the key messages to EBA (European Business Association), AMCHAM (American Chamber of Commerce), Moldova Fruct Association, The Fashion Association, the Incoming Tourism Association as well as the Moldovan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The new coalition gets strong support from USAID and Chemonics, experienced Donors and Implementers in Moldova. As one of the next steps a fact finding trip to Georgia is planned to see how EPAC did it there. For East Invest 2 - PPD Activity this is a great success story, by assisting a successful Coalition and connecting them to other projects.Contact: Christian Gessl - [email protected]
