– be able to assist with monitoring of the agreed schedule

– understand how to evaluate the effectiveness of time management processes for a project

Elements of Competency

• Each unit of study is composed of elements of competency

• Apply Project Time Management Techniques comprises 3 elements of competency –

1. Assist in the development of project schedules

2. Apply agreed schedules

3. Participate in assessing time management outcomes

• Elements of competency are further broken down into performance criteria, these can be found on the next slides

1. Assist in the development of project schedules

1. Contribute, within delegated authority, to determining the duration and effort, sequence and dependencies of tasks to meet project objectives

2. Use project scheduling tools and techniques to help establish and integrate planned time management aspects of the schedule, resource allocation and financial requirements

3. Contribute to the agreement process and communication of the schedule to the client and other stakeholders

2. Apply agreed schedules

1. Use techniques to measure, record and report progress of activities in relation to agreed schedules and plans

2. Record variance between actual and planned progress and report to others for remedial action

3. Contribute to forecasting the impact of changes on the schedule and to the analysis of options

4. Implement agreed changes to the schedule and update plans as directed to accommodate changing situations throughout the project

3. Participate in assessing time management outcomes

1. Provide assistance in the review of project outcomes to determine the effectiveness of time management tools, techniques and approaches used

2. Report scheduling and time management issues and responses to project manager for application in future projects

• One of the critical elements of competency for this unit of study is the use of project scheduling tools

• MS project is the most common and easily available project scheduling tool

• As part of completing the Certificate IV in Project Management you are required to attend a one day tutorial for MS Project

• Attendance is compulsory and you will learn how to construct project schedules using MS project, including –

Construction of the WBS

Activity scheduling and interdependencies

Baselining and Critical Path

Resource and cost allocation to activities

Schedule Reporting

• The MS Project Tutorials are held on one Saturday

• You will be required to attend Crows Nest College – 149 West Street, Crows Nest from 9am to 4pm

• Refer to your Course Delivery Schedule for the dates

• Contact your Course Facilitator if it is not possible for you to make arrangements to attend these tutorials

Scheduling ToolsAlternatives to MS Project Tutorials

• If you are already competent in the use of MS Project or other project scheduling tools, then you can apply to your Course Facilitator for recognition of prior learning

You will need to provide evidence of competency in the form of completed MS Project Schedules

Concepts covered must include interdependencies, critical path, baselining and ‘actual versus planned’ schedule reporting

Formal attestations as to competency are required from the Learner and a workplace supervisor

Samples of work product must be submitted

Alternatively, dated certificates and topic lists from previous course attendance can be provided

• If you are unable to attend the MS Project Tutorials, then you will need to attend an alternate course at your own expense

You will need to provide evidence of course attendance and completion, including dated certificates and topic lists

The course could cover MS Project or an alternate and comparable scheduling tool

Concepts covered must include interdependencies, critical path, baselining and ‘actual versus planned’ schedule reporting

Formal attestations as to competency are required from the Learner and a workplace supervisor

Samples of work product must be submitted Attendance MUST occur during the 20 week course

delivery timeframe for the Certificate
