BSA Emergency Preparedness Merit Badge Class Come to the Deseret News Utah Prepare Conference and Expo to work on the Emergency Preparedness merit badge, required for advancement to Eagle Scout. Learn what you can do to prevent, protect from, respond to, recover from, and mitigate hazards in your home and potential disasters in your neighborhood. Also participate in a required emergency practice drill.

This class is offered twice: * Friday, September 28, 2018, 5:00-8:00 p.m. * Saturday, September 29, 2018, 12:00 noon-3:00 p.m. Cost: $5.00 per Scout ($4 early bird before September 4) or FREE by volunteering for one 4-hour shift in our interactive Disaster Discovery Center at the Expo (Fee refunded at end of shift.) This will also provide you with 4 of 8 service hours required for the Citizenship in the Community merit badge. Volunteer Shifts available: 1. Friday 1:30-5:30 p.m. 2. Friday 5:00-9:00 p.m. 3. Saturday 7:30-11:30 a.m. 4. Saturday 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. 5. Saturday 2:30-6:30 p.m.

After the class, you will need to complete the following requirements at home: * Family plan (#2c) * Finding your community's emergency management director to learn what they do (#6c) * Written plan for mobilizing your troop in an emergency (#7b) * Personal emergency service pack for mobilization and family emergency kit (#8c) * Home safety inspection, family plan of escape in case of fire, or family accident prevention program (#9a, b, or c)
