Great Concert—Great Job! The DSO Concert June 4th was a great success. Thanks to all of you who came out during the day to help with the set up, and a special thanks to Carol Myers for opening her house up for lunch for the set up volunteers. A huge Bryan Place "thank you" to all who came out Tuesday evening to help with the raffles, the concessions, se ng up our vendors, and as-sis ng with so many ac vi es going on Tuesday night. This event could not ever be such a success without the help of so many who give of their me, money, and crea ve efforts. The es mated crowd of 1,000 to 1,200 people and their dogs ap-peared to have a wonderful evening in our Exall Park. I hesitate to men on individuals because I can never men on everyone. I cannot however pass up this opportunity to send out a huge "THANK YOU" to Tuesday night's grill master Mr. Zlatko Oprijic (Z). He did such an outstanding job we ran out of hot dogs & hamburgers by 7:30 P.M. The commi ee of Susie L., Sue D., and Gaye M. did a fantas c job with our raffle prizes and we had records sales of ckets thanks to Debbie Anderson and our volunteers from the J.L. Long Middle School volley ball team. Our Treasurer Peggy T. did an excellent job keeping up with the funds that were coming in fast and furi-ous. According to reports that Peggy is already sending us the Friends group is going to net close to $12,000.00. 100% of all the funds raised go back into the maintenance and enhance-ments for Exall Park. Lastly I want to thank so much Gary & Joy Mitchell and Chris Lumkes. We could never be as well prepared without there help every year to have our fes vi es set up and ready to go the morning of the concert. To the hundreds of our Friends of Exall Park, thank you for coming out and suppor ng our Dallas Symphony Orchestra concert. It was a terrific evening for the community, for Bryan Place, and for Exall Park.
Thank you all so much, Wayne

Hinga Automotive Hearing Held After testimony from several Bryan Place residents, the City Plan Commission voted on June 6th to overrule city staff recommendations and approve a new PD 298 sub-district for Hinga Auto Repair. This would let Hinga continue to operate as an auto-repair business, despite missed deadlines in April 2010 and April 2013 to convert the property to an alternate use.
The good news for Bryan Place is that instead of the ten-year SUP requested by the owner, the commission only approved a two-year SUP, and they further indicated that they would not approve any future requests. The new sub-district and two-year SUP now goes before the city council, and it is unclear if it will be scheduled before the city council summer break during July.
Summer Brings Out Crimes Of Opportunity
Summer begins June 21st. Now that warm weather is in full swing, so are would be burglars. It is not unusual for prowlers to stake out neighborhoods for homeowners who are vacationing or taking weekends away from home. Neighbors are encouraged to step up precautions to keep Bryan Place safe. If you plan on leaving home for an extended period, please inform a neighbor to keep an eye on your place by picking up your mail, newspapers, and flyers. Working together we can fight crime in our area.
Pool Parties And Parking Summer typically makes the Bryan Place swimming pool the most popular place in the neighborhood. The added activities seem to bring more cars to the area causing parking headaches for residents who live closest to the pool. Please walk to the pool and advise your guest to do the same so that we can keep Pavillion and Adolph streets clear, especially for emergency
Fireworks Prohibited Dallas Police reminds everyone that it is illegal to use fireworks within the city limits. Anyone caught will have their fireworks confiscated and could be fined up to $2000. It is more important to heed this warning within Bryan Place because our homes are so close together. Please enjoy legal displays nearby and have a safe and happy Independence Day!

Monthly BPNA Board Meeting! The Bryan Place Neighborhood Association board held their monthly meeting on Monday, June 3rd. The board discussed the late notice of the Dallas City Plan Commission hearing with Hinga Automotive, low crime statistics in the our area and planning the July 4 pool party.
The next monthly board meeting will be Monday, July 1, 2013 at 7PM, held at the pool club house, 3030 Adolph Street. Anyone can attend.
Board Not Opposing Zoning Requests The BPNA board does not plan to oppose the 5 year SUP renewal request for Ross Avenue Liquors located at 1617 North Haskell between Ross Avenue and San Jacinto Street. As previously reported, the neighborhood board approved a variance request from McDonald’s on Gaston Avenue to expand it’s business allowing for multiple drive-thru lanes and a remodeling. The additional drive-thru lane should reduce some of the traffic which is blocked at the intersection due to limited parking. Though the business is distance from Bryan Place, they reached out to the area for support of the change.
Don’t forget the leash free dog park at the Meadows Founda on, Swiss Avenue and Liberty Street.
Neighbors Encouraged To Participate In Flood Design Plans
As the Mill Creek design progresses, neighbors are encouraged to participate in the discussion on the city’s plans to divert the over flow from our area. You may recall at the 2011 spring general meeting, city officials gave a talk on how approval of bonds would create a flood plan in and our neighborhood. WE now have a chance for input on how the city moves forward with the design and to preserve a neighborhood look as opposed to something industrial right around our homes. Watch for the meeting dates which are forthcoming.

3232 San Jacinto - Yard of the Month The yard of the month for June goes to Toni and Charles Quisenberry of 3232 San Jacinto. They have been working diligently getting their yard ready for summer. The curved beds are outlined in stone and are filled with a mixture of coleus, begonias, hosta, New Guinea impatiens and an array of colorful bedding plants. Bos-ton Ferns hang from the live oak tree. The accent lighting of “star wands” offer a whimsical touch to this spe-cial yard. When you are driving into the neighborhood from Hall Street check out the owner’s handy work. -Dan Cohn

Ross Avenue Tumbling Down
Woodard Automotive on Ross Avenue was demolished in May to clear the way for a planned development by Trammel Crow. The automotive repair garage was the center of controversy for the area when special zoning became an issue for the historic business. Eventually a compromise was reached in 2010 allowing them to stay a while longer. Woodard sold to the developer and this now become the second new apartment complex on Ross Avenue near Bryan Place after the Icon On Ross opened in 2012.
Spring Storms Bring Out Beauty And The Beast At Gateway
The unusual rain storms in May helped the plants to create beautiful blooms at the intersection of Ross and Central Expressway, our Gateway to the Arts District. But the storms also blew more debris around making clean up a challenge. We may plan a neighborhood clean up to remove the weeds and trash in time for residents enjoy summer walks to the many venues the Arts District has to offer. Many have commented how on how colorful the cacti appeared during the past few weeks, drawing more attention the project.
