General Information – Broward Youth Policy Summit Expo

• Funding source: Title III, Immigrant Grant, Cultural Academy for New Americans • NCLB Definition of Immigrant Student:

K-12 students, who are not born in any State, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and has not attended one or more schools in one or more state for more than three (3) full academic years.

• Student/teacher ratio: 1:10 (1 teacher for every 10 students). Schools may request an additional group of 10 students/1 teacher if space is available.

• Substitute funding will be paid by Title III, Immigrant Grant. Selection Criteria: Established criteria for identifying students should be based on:

1. As defined by NCLB (see above). 2. Priority should be given to 10th, 11th and 12th grade students who participated in Close

Up’s Rally to the Tally the prior school year. Your list of students can be found under ‘Close Up Final Participation List from Rally 2016-17’ through your account online.

• If a student is no longer at your school, please find the student in TERMS to identify what school the student is in. Student should be able to participate with the other school.

• If the student cannot participate with another school or left BCPS, it is your responsibility to find an eligible replacement at your school site.

• Consideration will be given to 10th, 11th and 12th grade students who meet the criteria. • New students will need to do additional prep work to prepare for the Summit. Please use

the Close Up Lesson Plans provided to you online. 3. ESOL Classification B1-C1/levels 2-6 or non-ELL students who meet NCLB immigrant student

criteria. 4. All students should be aware that pick-up times can be as early 5:00am and drop-off times can be

as late as 3:30pm. They will need to arrange for transportation to and from the school at those times. The buses provided will only take them to and from NSU.

Administrators will:

• Designate 1 teacher sponsor for every 10 students. • Assist with processing all field trip forms in a timely manner.

Teachers will:

• Identify and select students. • Ensure that all selected students complete necessary forms. • Secure and submit all required forms and approvals to school site administration, region, district

and Close Up. (e.g., field trip packet, school registration packet, student rosters, student applications, supporting audit documentation, culminating activities etc.). If you have male and female student and are not taking two chaperones of different genders, please list the following on your field trip paperwork:

o If a female is required – please add Victoria Saldala, SBBC. Emergency Contact is Ray Saldala – 786-586-4606.

o If a male is required – we will provide that information later. • Share information with school staff, students and parents in a timely manner • Maintain Close Up audit binder at school site with all required documentation. • Remain with students during all activities and events.

Students are to submit:

Timeline of Responsibilities:

1. 8/31/17 – Informational meeting – Adobe Connect. 2. 9/25/17 or earlier – Email/Scan Registration Form to [email protected].

You will receive email confirmation that you can participate from Osiris once administrator approval form is received. Start field trip paperwork for district and field trip approval forms for students ASAP.

3. 10/2/17 or earlier – Teacher – Submit Roster of Students to Jodi Miteva – [email protected] for district approval.

4. 10/16/17 or earlier – Teacher - Submit TDA to [email protected] 5. 11/27/17 – Jodi will provide bus pick-up and drop-off information and information on what to wear.

Teachers should have meetings with parents to discuss expectations, secure Close Up Enrollment Form and Close Up Medical Form.

6. 12/7-12/8/17 – Participate in Close Up – Broward County Youth Policy Summit!!! All Close Up Forms, Lesson Plans, Sample Field Trip forms for district and TDA are available online through your account.

• Funding source: Title III, Immigrant Grant, Cultural Academy for New Americans • NCLB Definition of Immigrant Student:

K-12 students, who are not born in any State, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and has not attended one or more schools in one or more state for more than three (3) full academic years.

• Student/teacher ratio: 1:10 (1 teacher for every 10 students). • Student/parent ratio: 1:1 (Each student can bring one parent, relative, or guardian)

Selection Criteria: Established criteria for identifying students should be based on:

1. As defined by NCLB (see above). • Priority should be given to 10th, 11th and 12th grade students who participated in

Close Up’s Rally to the Tally the prior school year or will participant in the Broward Youth Policy Summit Expo. .

• Consideration will be given to 10th, 11th and 12th grade students who are ESOL Classification B1-C1/levels 2-6 or non-ELL students who meet NCLB immigrant student criteria.

2. All students can only take one adult – parent, relative, sibling or guardian – and adults do not need to speak English to attend.

Administrators will:
